Another pet peeves thread: Tips for road ragers

If you're going to road rage, at least learn the rules of the road first. For instance, it is actually the law that you must yield to oncoming traffic when turning left, in case you didn't know.

And you probably should not flip people the bird and shout profanity out your window when you're driving a company vehicle with your phone number on it. That's just bad business.

Did a just under 3000 mile road trip last week. Got a laundry list of them.

But tops would be that apparently many Nebraskans don't understand the concept of "keep right". Tons of people simply camp out in the left lane. Nothing is more infuriating. Really didn't have that problem in CO or WY. And my one problem in Iowa was with a guy who had Nebby plates.

My other favorite is when you're clipping along just fine (right lane, mind you) and a person comes to pass you at about 1 mph faster than you. You come up on somebody else, get pinched, have to slow down and reset cruise. Not the end of the world. But just get around me. You can goose the accelerator a bit.

It is not your God given right or law of the road that traffic yeilds to you when you merge onto the interstate from an on ramp.
Or that you can swerve over in the other lane when that person does not yeild.

That said if you are in the slow lane and you can get over you should, otherwise you are a complete jack***

Did about the same distance and these both killed me. Substitute Nebraska with southeastern states though.

Holy crap, it is like you were reading my mind with those two.

My other big one is someone who passes you on the interstate and then two minutes later you are passing them, then they pass you again, and so on, and so on. It's called cruise control, try it.

I think that too. But it is funny because my wife is from Minnesota and her whole family thinks it is Iowans who have that problem. I always laugh when they complain about peoples driving because her family is horrible drivers with no road common sense or etiquette, it's their road and we are all just in the way.

Or, just get off the phone and start monitoring your speed like you are the person responsible for that 3,000 pound projectile.

I see plenty of Iowans who camp out in the left lane, but often move to the right when someone comes up on them. Not really a problem, unless they wait too long.

This guy on Saturday, had about 3 or 4 of us come up on him. I flashed my lights to try and get him over, then passed on the right. He proceeded to do something with his finger.

Sorry the rest of us understand how to drive *** hole.

That would be number 3.

Similar one is the guy who can't stand to be passed. Doing 65 until you get there and try and pass, then suddenly he has to do 75. Of course, he's back to 65 in a matter of minutes.

If only the semi driver I saw this morning would have realized that. Heading towards the shueyville exit from Cedar Rapids, he came on going about 50, but there was a car in the left lane and a truck behind that, and 3 trucks in a line in the right lane. The truck that he almost ran into tried to swerve into the left lane and only realized at the last second that there was a car there. The truck behind the one that swerved just went into the left lane without looking. If I hadn't been able to slam on the brakes, he would have sideswiped me off the interstate.

If you're going to start yelling at a car that cut you off:

1. Make sure that car is not an unmarked policemen.
2. Make sure the liter of canadian mist you've got half polished is out of sight.

I learned both these lessons the hard way on one occasion.

The list of traffic laws that Nebraskans (particularly residents of Omaha) don't understand/choose not to follow is endless.

Traffic rules in Omaha:

1) Do whatever you want, whenever you see fit.
2) When in doubt about what is allowed, see rule #1

Today, on the south side of CR, a lady was stopped in my lane as she had gone 1/2 way through an intersection at a red light. She was just stopped and, of course, on her phone. She was over 1/2 way through and there was no traffic other than me and another guy heading at her perpendicular. Instead of just going on through the intersection she backed up, making the person behind her back up as well. All while on the phone. It would have taken 2 seconds to continue forward but the dumba$$ went in reverse and would have gotten t-boned if I was as stupid as her and was on my phone.

The left lane issue bothers me more than anything.

I also don't like when people ride my tail when I'm on the motorcycle. This usually only happens when I'm stuck in traffic.

Incorrect side mirror setup is another one that most people fail.

My father would probably roll over in his grave if he heard this but I'd like to see a law that wouldn't allow semi's to be in the far left lane if there are 3 or more lanes.
