More Complaining: Downtown CR Parking
Back in angle parking is asinine. Discuss.

Re: More Complaining: Downtown CR Parking
I don't believe I've ever encountered back in street parking. Seems it would be much safer leaving, but what a pain getting it backed in.
Bad enough watching most drivers try an parallel park..... this might be entertaining while infuriating.

Not nearly as bad as the back in/ cut across the street to pull in to a stall parking at the pond by the north liberty exit though. Especially since the back in, if it is the one I'm thinking of, is on a low traffic one-way street.
Edit: Of course , I could be have some bias on this, espcially since I learned to drive in CR. When I took drivers ed, my instructor was also my tennis coach and he enjoyed having us drive around downtown for hours looking for a spot to parallel park between the two most expensive cars he could find, while the other kids were back at campus parking between cones.

Re: More Complaining: Downtown CR Parking
I had to do this one time in downtown CR this spring, and I had to turn around a couple times to figure out how do park, exactly. Seemed a little odd.

Re: More Complaining: Downtown CR Parking
its like the roundabout things .. more efficient - but the education of everybody on their use will take a generation.
the back in parking was largely brought on right after the flood when parking was a premium and safety while large construction equipment was around was a concern (like other back in parking its statistically safer than the traditional forward parking methods).
the sad part is a chunk of the population still have no idea how to parellel park and some of them don't know what it looks like when the person in from of them is tryng to parallel park (and stop on their bumper).
basically its a "good on paper, but bad given the amount of road-raging going on"

Re: More Complaining: Downtown CR Parking
So will Lincoln come up with a system to automatically park your car this way?
Personally, I think backing in is much easier than most people make it out to be. Just use your side mirrors. If you can see the entire car beside you in your mirror, you've cleared it and you just need to straighten out and your done. I always try to back into busy parking lots if I can.

basically its a "good on paper, but bad given the amount of road-raging going on" The roundabout things were a bad idea in cold climate areas. How do you effectively plow them in the winter? All the ones that I've seen end up collecting snow in the middle and once you get a lot of snow you can't see what's going on across the intersection.

I just try not to park close in the busy parking lots. I laugh at those people who go round and round and round looking for the close spot, unless of course they are handicapped.

The highly skilled drivers who frequent this site can do it, but mostly nobody else can.

Re: More Complaining: Downtown CR Parking
I thought you were going to complain about all of the pukeye fans driving their rusted out Volares around, not caring that they are uninsured (as well as uneducated) while bumper taping cars all around as they park.

What's downtown worth going to? Daniel Arthurs is the only resturant close to downtown worth going to and they have valet parking. -
Re: More Complaining: Downtown CR Parking
I'd recommend just staying away from CR. Between this and the photo radar, it's dead to me.

Only concerned with 380 N out of IC and 151N off 380.

There will be one more installed on the north bound side and 2 more install on the south bound side some time. They mentioned somewhere near st lukes hospital for the next location going live
