It's stupid, reactionary legislation. There are fireworks warehouses all over Missouri
and the state hasn't burned to the ground.
I grew up around fireworks in Indiana. They are like anything else - potentially dangerous if you are stupid. So is water. Doesn't mean it should be banned.
Their state hasn't burned to the ground because they haven't discovered fire yet.

so basically we should just ban fireworks in spencer and let everyone else have them. the one person ruined it for everybody rule is BS considering this happed almost over 70 years ago. We've also had too much rain this year for something like that to happen anyway

My family and I live in Urbandale and it is a joke if the police think they are going to catch a lot of people. Some of the best parts of the 4th is actually watching all the neighbors, myself including, have our own little fireworks display. This is ridiculous.
Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
growing up we shot a lot of July 4th fireworks... A LOT. The next day we were required to go around the neighborhood and clean up every last piece of scrap we shot the night before.

Growing up in Ames my family did this very same thing.
I remember the cops handling it very well. If they noticed you had a ton of ammunition they would often stop by just to make sure you were being responsible and then they would let you go about your celebrations. Sounds like Urbandale is going a bit overboard on this one.
Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
If anyone is looking to cause some trouble in Urbandale... I'm in.:biggrin:
Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
Man I just txted my neighbor to bring home some fireworks from misouri now I don't know how will they police it anyway???
Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
keep a stash inside ... only have about 10% of your stash available at street level.

Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
I just spent $300 on fireworks in Milan this morning to take to my parents in Altoona.

I remember similar out in waukee. As it got later if ya were still going they might say 'alright, about time to wrap it up'
Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
I used to know a cop that whenever he would catch people using illegal fireworks, he would just take them without writing a citation. He would in turn go home and give those fireworks to his own kids. :biglaugh:

Now we always hear about the state having a lack of revenue. The state of Iowa should allow the selling of fireworks within the state but also place a small tax on them. The state makes more money, people don't have to spend the gas money to get fireworks, everyones happy!
Ummm, not true. If there is probable cause to open the trunk, they will. Let's say you just put out a J and got pulled over. The smell or marijuana in your car would be enough to warrant a search, and they will not wait for your permission or some judge to sign a warrant. I know this because I was in a car that this happened to 3 years ago.

Otoh, i believe its perfectly legal to possess fireworks in iowa, just not to sell or use them. So even if they did inspect your trunk, bfd, unless you have something else in there.
