I doubt anything comes of this... just a scare tactic. I don't see it stopping anybody.

Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
the state of iowa needs to wake up and smell the coffee. They fail to realize that people will go across state lines and bring back as much fireworks as they want with little chance of them getting caught because police cant search someones trunk without their permission or warrant. Now we always hear about the state having a lack of revenue. The state of Iowa should allow the selling of fireworks within the state but also place a small tax on them. The state makes more money, people don't have to spend the gas money to get fireworks, everyones happy!
Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
I wouldn't chance it. Sounds like an easy opportunity for the Urbandale police department to make some extra money in a time when money is scarce for public services like the police department.

Tell that to the people of Knoxville in Marion County. Knoxville had a big fireworks warehouse back in the forties. The place caught fire during a work day and many people were seriously burned and several died. It was this disaster that brought about the fireworks legislation on the books today and it ain't gonna change any time soon, if ever.

That's it. The Urbandale police are communist. I knew it.

So put regulations in place for the safe operations of such places. Other places seem to get along fine. Plus, a disaster at a warehouse has nothing to do with allowing people to light off their own fireworks. Its long past time to get rid of this stupid, widely ignored, law.

Actually, it was Spencer.
Spencer On Fire: Why Fireworks Are Banned In Iowa
It's stupid, reactionary legislation. There are fireworks warehouses all over Missouri and the state hasn't burned to the ground.
I grew up around fireworks in Indiana. They are like anything else - potentially dangerous if you are stupid. So is water. Doesn't mean it should be banned.

OMG, I'm writing my senator. Water can drown people!!! There should be legislation banning water!!!
Re: Jail Time for Fireworks?!
Say what you want about the state of Nebraska, but this state is actually loosening laws on fireworks a bit. This comes even despite some high-profile incidents in which some kids were injured by jerks with commercial-grade fireworks. Had these incidents happened in Iowa, I'm sure the politicians in Des Moines would have fallen over each other in a rush to use them to even further toughen fireworks laws.
