Best way to sell a used car?
Anyone have any methods that have worked? I am going to try and sell my car on my own. I tried to trade it in yesterday, and the dealer offered me a complete joke of a deal. I walked.
What works? Craigslist? The Register?
If anyone is looking for a new car, it is a 2009 Accord EX-L V6, XM, Remote Start, 18" wheels, with less than 14k miles. Only reason I am selling it is I just need a bigger vehicle.
Asking 22k.
EDIT: I guess you cannot link in picassa pics.

Sunday Register
Last car my parent's advertised in the Register was sold by 7:00 AM the same day.

Dealer offered me about 5k less than the true value. I am not looking to make a bunch of $$ on this, I just don't like the screw job that Honda of Ames was trying to take me for.

Do you still have a loan on the car? I sold a car on cars.com, would probably start with craigslist now though.

I am sending the final check in tomorrow to pay it off. I know it will be a lot easier to sell with no loan. I guess I should probably wait till I get the title.

Hos, you made a big mistake! You stopped by a Lithia dealership without KY Jelly.

I am going to ask right around what Edmunds says it is worth, plus it has a remote start which is awesome in the winter.

I sold my 2004 Honda Accord on Craigslist in two weeks and I had multiple calls after it sold asking me about it. Should be an easy car for you to sell on your own unless it's too new than it may take a while but still should sell. Quality used Accords are very popular.
FYI, never put "or best offer" in your ad. That means your asking price is really not your selling price and they know you will come down. I like to put "firm" in the ad, helps keep the insulting bargain shoppers away and the people that do call seem to be more serious about the purchase.

Did you get anywhere close to kbb or edmunds prices for it? I would be happy to get that. I really thought the honda dealer would want a used accord since they would have sold a new pilot.

Put it on Cars.com for $40.00. It runs until it sells. If you look at cars.com pricing you will see you are less than average so you should have pretty good luck. To do this, call the dm register, they will put it on for you and also put it in the paper for you. The number is in the sunday register. When it runs on cars.com it also runs on yahoo autos and about 15 other sites as well.

I have heard pretty good things from Carmax, but haven't heard anyone take a newer car there. Only ones that are 5ish years old. usually get close to blue book, they give you a price and you have a week or so to decide if you want to take it. Good Luck.

We sold our 2004 Buick Rainier back in Feb. Took it to Carmax in Omaha, where they gave us a pretty low quote I thought. Listed it on Craigslist the next week and sold it in 2 days for $2500 more than Carmax offered.
I'd say put it on Craigslist and see what happens. It's free and you can take it down whenever you want if you're not getting any action on it.
Re: Best way to sell a used car?
Thought I would point out that selling privately instead of trading it in will end up costing you about $1,000 in additional sales tax (5% X $20,000) when you buy your new car.
