    Bird Issue

Anyone ever have birds come after them while they are mowing? Yesterday while mowing I had about 3 birds flying around me the whole time I was mowing my yard. At first I thought it was because I was near a tree but it continued the whole time I was mowing. They would dive right in front of the mower, go right next to my head, etc. Even though I don't think they would actually come in contact with me it's still a little freaky having birds zoom a few feet in front of your head. I do have a bird feeder in my yard. Maybe they were ****** that it was empty :)

Where they red winged black birds? My wife had one of those dive at her. It was protecting a nest that was close.

Could be swallows. They are chasing the bugs that you disturb while mowing and eat them. Usually blue backs with a yellow/tan belly.

Swallows will dive bomb anything that gets close. I've seen them dive bomb cats and get caught. I don't think they will intentionally hit you.

I'd be willing to bet that they were barn swallows. Sometimes when you mowlots of bugs come out of the grass and the barnswallows like to swoop in to eat the bugs. They aren't scared of people at all and they will fly right by your head I've had this happen to me several times when I've mowed yards.

I think they were swallows. It was probably worse since the grass was a little wet and lots of flies.

Just wear sunglasses so they don't poke your eyes out. I'll bet on swallows picking up bugs.

Yep - swallows. We have a large population of barn swallows and they eat all the little bugs that the mower kicks up. It's a little creepy at first, but after getting used to them I don't mind too much. It's actually pretty cool that they can see those little tiny things and pluck them out of the air.

Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
