Pretty sure they said they weren't including musical's right off the bat, so that disqualified "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and I don't think they were including original scores, just songs, so that explains Godfather, Jaws, etc.
I'm going to have to somewhat disagree with the "it should have been unknown before the movie" sentiment. I think there are a lot of songs that weren't necessarily big hits originally because of the movie, but being in a movie either:
a) Made the songs relevant again for a new generation
or
b) Gave the song staying power beyond what your normal Top 40 hit would have had

"Wild Thing" from Major League! Come on! Where is it?
Though this was a pretty good list.
