    Bike Routes

Buying a road bike (cycling) this week and want to ride outside of Ames. Which roads are best and enjoyable? Any biking enthusiasts out there?

Try using a bike path instead of the road.

I'd be very careful out there on the roads. I believe you have the right to be there, but there are just too many people driving fast and/or not paying attention. Accidents happen, but it would suck to be on a bike or motorcycle for the matter when one does occur. I ride about 250 miles 4-5 days a week, but only 2 days are on the roads when I'm in a group of 8-16 riders. I'd check around (like you are) at Bikeworld and BikeIowa.org for groups that ride out of the Ames area.
