(yeah….I know…deep ****!) Many of us have been where many of today's "kids" are on acceptable fashion trends. This one is particularly interesting to me because you basically forgo a practical option for the sake of cultural acceptance. For example, for those on this forum that attended ISU in the late 80's/early 90's and used backpacks, it was basically taboo to carry your backpack using both straps. Literally (and ask anyone who was on campus during those days and they'll tell you), you didn't use both straps on your backpack. Period. Yes….I know everyone does use both straps today and it doesn't make sense to only use one, but you were basically a nerd (or forgiven as being an International student) if you did back in those days. Just like the cell phone question I posed. It isn't about practical, it is about what the masses say is cool/acceptable for the time. There still is no practical reason why you wouldn't wear a clip/holder…I was just looking for the superior alternative (which there obviously is none.) Nothing on this thread gives me any reason to thing the cell phone clip is any different than the one-strap backpack reasoning of the late 1980's.
Practical reasons NOT to wear a belt clip- It is clunky and protrudes from your body therefore allowing it to bump into things.
- Uncomfortable. This is personel preference but when sitting in a chair, car seat, etc the thing pushes into you or because it protrudes it gets int he way when you sit. And no I am not a large man so save the fat jokes
- It costs money- Why spend $20 on an acessory you don't need.
- You have to wear a belt- I rarely wear a belt so again more $$$
- Because of its bulkiness, it could damage the phone because it makes it more apt to be hit/bumped
- If it falls out of the holster or comes unclipped, you might not know because the holster/clip is still attached.
Those are some practical reasons as to why I don't wear a belt clip/holster for my phone. I tried it and didn't like it. Here are some practical reasons why I wear it in my pocket- Less obtrusive- In my work this is important
- I can feel vibrate BETTER when in vibrate mode
- It costs no $$
- Little to no risk of it falling out and when it does, I know immediately
- I have experienced less damage to my phone when i carry it in my front pocket.
Are those practical enough for you? They have all been stated on here and yet you ignore them.

I carry my phone in my hand or stick it in my pocket.

Dress shirts for me are professionally laundered, pressed, and starched. By putting a phone in the pocket( which you'd have to pry open as the starch normally keeps it flat), it would pretty much defeat the purpose for spending money to get your shirts done. So for me, this would not be an option. As for the continual "practical" responses people keep providing -- thanks. I got the message and have been shown there are practical reasons for not using a clip for some people.

Is there that big of a difference? I honestly don't know. And I would ask, is there a practical purpose for spending that money? Not trying to be a smart-***, I'm a farmer, so my work outfit is obviously quite different.

It is pretty much required for certain professions although you certainly can press and starch your own shirts. It a lot of work though and hard to make look as nice as a dry cleaner can IMO. -

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

Re: Fashion Police: How/where do you carry your cell phone?
I can only hope that some day the "necessity" of taking shirts to a professional laundry goes by the wayside. I absolutely hate starch in my shirts, and I can't tell the difference between a wash, dry, and iron shirt and one that has been professionally laundered once somebody wears it for more than 3 minutes.

I agree in the respect I'd love to save the jack, but it is easy to tell if someone isn't getting their dress shirts done. The seams around the shoulders (biggest tip off), pocket, and cuffs too.
It is a necessary evil…unless you just don't care.
Why don't you like starch? -
