Red Light Speed Cameras coming to Des Moines
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened.”

Should be able to lay off some cops then right?
I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story. -

Oh wonderful
Maybe they should raise the speed limit instead. The freeway isnt cramped like it used to be, and aside from about 20-30min on either end of the day, its very much wide open.

The red light cameras don't bother me that much as I don't run red lights but I'm not happy about the speed cameras on 235. It'll just clog crap up.

Re: Red Light Speed Cameras coming to Des Moines
As someone that does not think 55 has been anything but a suggestion, this could be a significant issue for me on 235...

Indeed, let traffic flow. Its not like theres been big problems with lots of accidents due to speed on 235.. plenty of speeding, for sure, but thats because the speed limit is set way lower than it ever should be, so the vast majority break the limit.

Re: Red Light Speed Cameras coming to Des Moines
If you read the article, it says that there will be a warning sign before each camera. There is no reason to worry if you pay attention and obey the signs on the road which most people should be doing anyways.
“I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads -
Re: Red Light Speed Cameras coming to Des Moines
Its got to look weird when these are installed. Do people just drive 10-15 over the limit until they see the sign and then speed up again once past? So its really just a virtual speed bump that generates cash. I would imagine that they will bait you in with the signs and then they will start having speed traps 2 miles after them so they can double dip and also catch the drivers that saw the sign and then sped up again.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -

Thats alright for the stoplights (as long as they dont shorten the yellow, which they do in many cases), but for speeding cameras, i think they really need to reexamine the speed limits in those areas first.
