Question for Golfers
I am about an 18-20 Handicap. That's honest, taking penalties, not improving lies etc. I have taught myself the game with these books:
The Five Lessons by Ben Hogan
The Putting Bible by Dave Pelz
The Short Game Bible by Dave Pelz
Frankly the issue with my game is the short game, but I am looking for advice on understanding my swing better as my short game is getting better with practice. Has anyone had experience with a DVD or Book that really helped them? Or a training aid?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Play a sport instead. "The difference between keeping what you have all to yourself and coveting what someone else has lies within your willingness to give versus your desire to take"

Re: Question for Golfers
Get lessons from a Pro. I see you live in Chicago there has to be 100's of golf pro's in your area.

Put away the books and find a local PGA Professional and take a lesson. Money will be well spent and you will learn a lot to help your short game

Re: Question for Golfers
I want to get lessons, but be at the mid 80's when I do. Reasoning being I want to have a good fundamental swing and understand it so I know what they are talking about. I know it is the harder route, but oddly enough that is what I like.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Something i learned at a young age was to choke up on 'flop' shots or shots within 50 yds. At the same time, you need to bend your knees more.
I am a great Lob wedge player inside 50 yds. I choke up, almost to the end of the grip, open my stance, and place the ball even with my back foot. Put the ball towards the rear of your stance and this will help eliminate topping the ball. This will also give the ball a higher trajectory and lots of backspin.

Problem with that is you will have your bad habits more ingrained into your swing and muscle memory. Probably best to go sooner then later.

Watch CW's last golf lesson video.

Thats backwards thinking. The golf pro if he is worth his salt will more than likely change everything about your swing anyway.

I agree with the above posts, sooner you take lessons probably the better.

Re: Question for Golfers
Go do a Swing Analysis study first... cheaper than the lessons. It'll help you understand where your swing plane is, if you're off path any (inside-out, or outside-in), etc. It's much cheaper that getting lessons, and once you understand your natural swing, then go get lessons immediately as they'll take what you just had analyzed and correct it and you can focus your lessons on aspects that need fixing. A lot of times you can find coupons for free or discounted swing analysis venues (biomechanics). It'll also help you with building clubs custom to your stance and swing.

Re: Question for Golfers
Take the money you plan to use for lessons and books and buy more beer. You will enjoy your round of golf much more.
