I don't see it that way, this person stated ISU was a junior college. That has nothing to do with sports. ISU needs the support from those who wish to follow a DI school.

Of course you can be a fan. I think the point being made here are the most obnoxious hawk fans did not attend UofI. I have many friends that did and they don't act this way. We give each other a hard time on game week, but they just have more class.

I do not think that the funniest part of the jokes is that they went somewhere else for their education, but it seems to mostly be that they went to a CC and didn't finish. And then still belittle a graduate of a four year university.

Re: Funny Bone Last Night

You wouldn't ask questions you already know the answers to if you went to ISU. -

My general rule of thumb. Cheer for whoever you want, cheer against teams you don't like. But be careful not to be a "richard" about your fandom. Look, I like the Vikes, Twins, and T-wolves, but I can temper myself aorund Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Bucks, Brewers, and Packer fans. I don't need to get all up in their face with your teams sucks stuff, it's like high school again. I think the point to consider is that many of the tavern hawk crowd never made it past high school and still have that mentality. Hawk fan (insert tavern hawk here) is a lot like a south side white sox fan, little rough around the edges, looking to fight, and jealous of the cubbies. ISU fan that graduated for ISU = cubbie. Even when the sox are better than the cubs, they are p'od because somebody still likes the cubs.

If you don't understand the difference between hating traditional national powers, and hating a non-threatening local team like ISU just to make yourself feel like you're better than someone else, I'm not even going to try to explain it to you.

No, you just have to had to at least attended a sporting event at the school you root for. I know Hawk fans who have not.

I am curious, which Funny Bone was this? There is a Funny Bone in Omaha, which I have been to on occasion, but I am assuming it wasn't this one.

If I had to guess, I would say the OP (who lists his location as "Ankeny") probably did not drive all the way to Nebraska to see a comedy show. I would further guess that at said comedy show, where the comedian and the crowd were debating multiple in-state Division 1 universities, that also was not in Nebraska.
