Probably the same idiot hawk fan that called me a racist for informing him that the hawkeyes are named after a character in The Last of the Mohicans. Apparently the fact that I called the university policy of not playing teams with native-American mascots ironic given their own mascot makes me a hate-monger.
I agree with whomever mentioned that their are cool hawk fans, I wish they spoke up more to dilute the toxic-waste coming from the lunatic fringe.

The name "Hawk-eye" is a homage to Chief Black Hawk.

The story I've always heard is that the school adopted the state nickname. The state chose the nickname via a write-in type contest, the Hawkeye proposal came from a person (a judge originally from Ohio if I remember correctly) that was a big fan of the book. For what it's worth, that's what I was told during my time on the UI campus.

This happens to me a lot - if it's the weekend I'm wearing ISU gear and random hawk fan seeks me out to give me crap. I don't get this at all... It even happened once as we were leaving church.

I want to go to church where wearing ISU gear is acceptable.
I also would love a Cyclone-themed church. All sermons delivered by CPR.

Yep, our church has a Saturday night service that is very casual.

This is what I consider Jack Trice.

I would assume the orignal poster was referring to the Gerdin Building and other donations that were made by non ISU athletic supporters. That is the way I read the post.
This whole argument is more evidence that both sides of the fanbase are obsessed with degrading the other. The State would be a much better place if we just ignored each other the 363.25 days of the year that we don't play in football or men’s basketball.

That's a good point. It's the other (larger) group that makes it difficult.

I wore an ISU polo to church the Sunday morning after we got back from Jamaica. I'd work our other dress clothes every day, so I needed something clean. It fit the bill pretty well (and it's not real uncommon around our church).
