WHen do other CIML schools start?

Dowling doesn't start until I think the 25th. That means the opener at Valley is before school even starts. What is the status of other CIML start dates?

Ankeny is back on the 18th.

Why does the season start so early this year? Aug 20th just seems awfully early to be playing games that count.

The first legal practice date for Class 4A western half and any other teams playing Week 0 (Aug. 20) is Aug. 4.

For everyone else (4A east, A-3A, 8P) the first legal practice date is Aug. 9.

Ah, you meant school start dates.

SInce Newton is no longer 4A-size, there is an odd number of teams on the western side of the state. We all get bye weeks now. Not sure when everyone's is, but ours in the week before substate, so instead of a 4 day break leading up to that, ours is 10.

Newton dropping to 3A caused some scheduling difficulties (like having an odd number of teams in 4A west), so they had to add an open week for many teams in order to sort everything out.

Yes. Which means camp starts Saturday. For teams like us, Ankeny, Indianola, and Mason City, it means little break (or even missing out on first part of camp if that team makes it to the finals Saturday.)

Ankeny has camp today and ends next tuesday, then we have 2 a days for a week I think, and then we play our scrimmage.

I'm so glad I graduated before this playoff expansion took place, who would want to satrt camp in July, thats crazy.... Although it sucked cause my junior and senior year we got screwed out of the playoffs..

I know this is easy to say coming from a winning school, but it does suck having to begin early so we can play a 3-6 team in the first-round of the playoffs. If you attend one of those schools or like them, congratulations on making the playoffs though.

At least now half the state makes the playoffs.
