Iowa Telecom (now Windstream) is the way to go. Only problem is, they dont provide service in Des Moines area or other large metro towns.

Re: Another mediacom thread
Most, if not all, of the apartments I have lived at don't allow you to put up satellite dishes or anything that affects the outward appearance of the building. That is why I am stuck with this crappy company. I will agree that their internet is pretty decent but everything else is garbage.
I had a guy come out to install cable into a bedroom and he said that they couldn't do that. He was kind enough to throw 20 ft of coax at me and tell me to run that across the middle of the floor and "make it work." Pure joke of a company.

In apartments, the installers cannot put in additional outlets or move them without a request from the property owner or manager. Buy a cheap splitter and run that coax he gave you along the baseboards to your bedroom TV.

He took several breaks outside, then came in sweating head to toe and would sit on my brand new couch. All he had to do was plug things in and set it up. Again, three hours it took him. He even called in another guy to stand and watch him.
Worked that night. Next morning, nothing. I called and told the person on the other end of the line "Just wanted to thank Mediacom for living down to my expectations. If I had a choice, I wouldn't be a customer." She went on to tell me that they couldn't get anyone out for a week or so. So, I took the box in myself, got a new one. It took me roughly 3 minutes to hook up and is now working.
What a ****** company. Problem is, they know it and don't care. They do absolutely nothing to make things right with you because they know they don't have to. It was probably a sub-contractor and not even a Mediacom employee who did your install. If apartments do, they are in violation of FCC rules. As long as you have exclusive access to an area (patio or deck), and there's no safety concerns, landloards cann't legaly prohibit you from putting up a dish.
Edit: A few years ago when we had Mediacom and wanting to get cable internet, there was no cable outlet near the computer desk in our loft style hallway and was told by multiple people at Mediacom that Mediacom couldn't install a cable outlet, only an electrican can. Eventually ended up doing what another poster did, got a splitter at the cable outlet in the master bedroom, tucking the cable along the baseboard and ran cable out to the hallway.

Re: Another mediacom thread
I hope that I never forget the advantages of being a home owner and living in Ames. US Cellular provides dependable phone service. Qwest gladly provides me with a data line for my fax and internet needs. ISUNet is a low cost ISP that provides all the tech help anyone could want. My attic antenna provides great, free HD reception and has allowed me to send Mediacom off into the sunset. Yes, life is good!

All he had to do was split it out at the box where they ran separate ways. Also had a note from the owner saying basically "do whatever you need to because we want it in there for future tennants anyway," with her phone number to call if there was any question. He told me that wouldn't be good enough, I would have to call and tell her to come in person so he could talk to her. She lives 2 hrs away so obviously didn't work.
His attitude was less than pleasant also. I appreciate that he even gave me the coax and didn't make me go buy one, but it was 6pm and by talking to him, kinda got the feeling he might as well have been clocked out already

I'll have to check when I get the chance but I am almost positive it's right there in the lease agreement or complex rules.

I have noticed it a few times, but for me it seems like a problem with the TV show. It seems like when I watch KWWL news it happens a lot. If I switch the channel, other shows match up. That does bug the crap outta me though when the sound and picture don't match. Some people claim they can't even tell.. How?

Re: Another mediacom thread
I had Dish for two years, Directv for two, and now starting mediacom. While I liked the selection I had better on Directv, the mediacom cable and phone has been fine (for the first month anyway), and the internet is blazing fast in comparison. -
Re: Another mediacom thread
Moved into a new place and had to go with Mediacom for the internet package for work. After waiting for the installer he shows up and takes 3 hours. Even asked for one of my beers. Thirty minutes after he leaves the cable goes out. I called DirectTV that night and scheduled the satellite installation and returned Mediacom's boxes.

Fixed it for ya.
