Authorities said they shut down a wild party at a private pond ...

Granted, we don't know what the public visibility was regarding shenanigans at the pond and it seems difficult to consider the pond private when "thousands" of people are there, but isn't there something to be said for doing as you please on your own property? (I'm assuming that the owner of the pond was aware of/allowed the party and thus trespassing wasn't an issue)

Unless it was the pond owner who called the sheriff....

It's about time they start to crack down on the dark side of RAGBRAI that the DM Register doesn't want us to know about.

Anyone confused by the RAGBRAI alcohol team's job?

The RAGBRAI alcohol team is a special group of officers who follow the ride across Iowa, making sure that riders leave each community early enough so they're not on the route in the dark.

I guess when I heard RAGBRAI alcohol team, I assumed that their job was to go around to make sure that people aren't too drunk.

I'm pretty sure you're right. That's what they're doing - keeping hammered riders off the road, trying to keep people moving in daylight.

Not like they could force you to leave a town anyway.

I have news for everyone. Ragbrai is not a bike ride. 75% of the people are there for the party.

Yeah they need to do a better job of cracking down on the dark side of a lot of events; college football tailgate parties, etc.

The best part about this is that Cartersville is probably only 20 miles from where the ride started.

I'm still kicking myself for not doing RAGBRAI in college.
