Art Monk and Jerry Rice rookie cards are about all I have anymore that have some worth. Can't bring myself to let go of them. Those were my two favorite players.

I like my roger staubach rookie card quite a lot
I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.

The card market has really bottomed out as far as value and market - which is a boon for sentimental collectors. People can afford the hobby again.

I think Ebay has really crapped on the market too. I've gone on there to look at cards I have that booked for $50 on sale for a dollar or two.

I have lots of cards, baseball, football and basketball. My most prized cards are rookie cards from Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Michael Jordan.

    Re: Football cards

I managed to unload about 100,000 cards a couple of years ago for about 1500 bucks. Not what they were 'worth', but by far the best I could do. I was ok with it, although I loved collecting when the kids came I had to clear out space. I saved back a couple hundred of my favorites and a nice stash of Ripkens. Luckily the value of his cards is still pretty good too so I will keep those for the kids. I still have all my football and basketball though and should look to unoad those too. Only about 20,000 I'm guessing of those. It has been fun getting some relatively cheap ones on ebay over the years though.
Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

    Re: Football cards

I have a very significant baseball card collection. Primarily 1952-1987. All the big names and several rookie cards. Mantles, Mays, Koufax, Aaron, etc.

I do have a handful of FB cards as well. Mostly 60s - 80s. Unitas, Payton, Starr, Tarkenton, etc.

Had several Jerry Rice and other rookie cards before someone stole them....lesson learned.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

Seems like when the player passes away, the card values go down. Is their value the greatest five years after retirement (unless they are a Mickey Mantle)?

    Re: Football cards

I know the market has tanked on everything but I have a couple of Topps complete NFL sets that have only been opened with maybe two cards taken out (and put right back in) from the mid 80's to early 90's. I also have a ton of individual cards but not holding my breath on those, thought if the complete sets were at least worth my time I may try to sell them. I pull out my binders and look at them once a year or so but the sets are just sitting there collecting dust.

    What do you guys think?

    Re: Football cards

My cards will eventually go to my son. While there is a bit of value in them now, I'm hopeful that they will be worth something more in twenty years or so.

    Re: Football cards

I have quite a few Cowboys cards from the 70's - early 90's. My best cards are probably Staubach, Dorsett, Smith and Aikman RC's. I also have a Walter Payton RC . These things aren't worth that much now so I have pretty much weaned my collection to just Cowboys. I do have some "Wacky Packages" and can't seem to let go . I wish I had a Tom Landry rookie but they still go for $600 and I can't justify it. I do have a bunch of Cowboy autogparhed cards(mostly from waiting in line at malls) and still have the desire to collect new Cowboys stuff but will only buy thenm as singles and not buy packs. Did any of you ever collect Wild Card cards? I was hooked on them for the two years they were out.

Fakes and reproductions killed the market.

My guess is they aren't worth much of anything. Complete sets from the 80s/90s are a dime a dozen to be honest.

Depending on year and any significant rookie cards in mint condition you could maybe pull a little bit of cash (couple hundred), but likely not much more.
