Re: Apartment Disaster
I just moved into brickstone, I had to have them come up and paint four times to finally get the job done, we had to clean ourselves, the "professional cleaning" was maybe mopping the kitchen. We had a carpet shampooer and when we did the bedrooms the water came out black. The place smelled like pot, cigarettes and overall scum, I'm going to try to talk my roommates into moving out after this year, Campustown is garbage.
Oh, and to upgrade to 10mb internet from the free 1.5, it's 70 dollars a month, yes, 70.

Re: Apartment Disaster
I don't really have a bad landlord story but I do have many bad tenant stories.
My all time worst tenant story. I move in this lady with her two kids. We sign the paperwork and we went through the move-in inspection together. It was Wednesday and I pointed out a few things that we still needed to do, primary cleaning, and she said that was fine because they were not going to move in till Saturday. A few hours later I get a call from her mom irritate that the apartment isn't cleaned. I told her the situation, but she was still mad so I ended up cleaning the apartment for her that evening. She stood their and tried to point out spots I missed and complained I wasn't doing a good enough job. Honestly, I've moved into several houses that were dirtier than that apartment on move in.
A few weeks later, the tenant reports to me that the toilet is plugged and she can't get it moving. I look at it enough to know that the plug is beyond the toilet, call the plumber and tell her that the plumber will be there on Friday (it was Thursday afternoon) and asked if she would be home Friday because I was going to be out of town. She said yes, and I gave her phone number to the plumber and asked the tenant not to use the toilet (reminded her that we have a public bathroom in the laundry room). That night, I take my faincee to the movies and I get a voice mail from her saying that her toilet overflowed and then get a number of voice mails after it claiming that her toilet has been acting up for weeks and I've been ignoring it (she had just told me that day) and claiming I'm now ignoring her calls. I tell her the same thing over again, not to use the toilet and the plumber would be there in the morning.
I'm driving over the pass to Seattle in a snow storm and I start getting calls from the plumber, the tenant and my supervisor (this was a vacation day). The tenant wasn't at the apartment for the plumber to let them in. We end up rescheduling for Monday, the plumber gets there and says no way is he touching the that toilet. It was full to the lid with solid material, They never quit using it but they did quit flushing it . Turns out that her kids threw toys down the toilet and they got lodged in the pipes.
I had to think to myself, how can someone who is so picky about the cleanliness of their apartment on move, put up with such a stinky dirty mess?

Re: Apartment Disaster
Campustown needs new management. 20-somethings that party like they are still students aren't getting the job done. They don't give a **** about any of their properties because they know someone will pony up the cash for their dumps. At least they are close to Welch! I don't bring my own opinions, just attack others. -

And if anything, he's worse than I described him. He frequently called me in the middle of the month for rent money because he had an "emergency." My rent was $475. Hell, even I have money for emergencies, especially one that was "only" $475, and I don't own 20 rental houses like he does. There was a plumbing problem he never did fix because "I don't have the money." It started out as a stool that would clog up regularly. And, no, I didn't call him about a clogged stool. But it gradually grew worse and eventually got so bad, I had raw sewage coming up in my bathtub every time I used the washing machine, which was the last straw. I moved out as soon as I could after that. --------------------------------------------------------------------
get the owners to fix it up.if they do not want to do it,.stop your check payment and find another apartment.

Re: Apartment Disaster
That's one thing I don't miss about living in Ames...dealing with shady property management places. My last few apartments I purposely moved into new or somewhat new places and paid a little bit more to avoid such horror stories
I remember one year me and some buddies rented an apartment that Kantrail Horton, Martin Rancik and Richard Evans had lived in...we got there on moving day and they hadn't done any cleaning...big surprise -
Re: Apartment Disaster
We had a few stains on our carpet too, mostly in the bed room or the spiral staircase... if they dont decide to come clean it were just gonna clean it ourselves.

Re: Apartment Disaster
Is this the company that Eve Cochran owns? I remember his sleazy *** when I lived in Ames earlier in the decade. We originally looked at some of his apartments and was about ready to sign until my boss at the time told me to stay the hell away from him. Best decision in Ames we ever made.

Pretty sure he is no longer living and his son sold the properties to Campustown IIRC.

We need to trade tenant horror stories. Have experienced almost to the letter exact same thing...multiple times. My solution.......tell the tenant I will call the plumber....but if they pull out a toy, comb, anything of that nature....it's your bill, and it will charged to you same as rent. Also....I really enjoy the surprise almost every tenant I evict leaves me in the toilet.....or on the carpet...spread on the walls. Mmmmmm, mmmmmmmm, good.
