DLP HDTV - I Need Help
I kept my about eight year old 60" Hitachi DLP HDTV in storage this summer for a couple months before I moved into my apartment. So when I get it into my apartment, I turn it on to find a large trasparent-blue dot in the center of the screen. I think it's heat damage to the projector lamp, which I can replace, but I was wondering if anyone had some insight on the issue, and think it may be something else within the TV.
Thanks in advance.

My guess is it is a dead bug on the mirror.

Really? It's blue and the picture still come through but it just has a blue tint in a circle that's about 6" in diameter.

Re: DLP HDTV - I Need Help
It means the lens or the mirrors have been warped by the heat & cold weather in that they are misaligned. It will run you about $200+ to get it fixed, you are better off just going and getting a new DLP tv for a few more hundred dollars if you want to get rid of the blue circle.

So it's not just the lamp? I guess I'm not really familiar with how a DLP TV works

My DLP was such a pain in the ***. Was constantly breaking down. Id advise you to upgrade and not waste any money on fixing it. You can get some pretty nice plasmas and lcds for fairly cheap these days online.

I plan on getting a Mitsubishi DLP for my next TV. Can't beat 60 Inches for under $1000.. Usually the only problems are changing the lamps, and the newer ones last a super long time and take 5 minutes to switch out. Replacements lamps now are less than $150..

That is what I currently have, the only complaint I have is that you cannot do a spilt screen with anything that is hooked via HDMI cables. You have to use either a S cable or RCA cables.
Other than that, the picture is great and you should be able to get at least 7+ years our of it, suggest you use the slow power up to conserve the bulbs etc.

This is what I plan on getting.. It is 1080p.. And is 3D capable, although I don't give two craps about 3D. And the DLP TV's arent nearly as big as they used to be!

Re: DLP HDTV - I Need Help
So speaking of lamps, will replacing mine fix the dot? I'm a poor college student who doesn't really want to spend money to get a new TV when a lamp will fix it for around $100

It's the mirrors.
