Re: Kansas City BBQ
About 5 years ago, a buddy and I went to K.C. for a weekend of golf, and that Friday night we went to a BBQ place that was locally owned and fantastic.
Here's the problem. I can't remember the name of it and I can't for the life of me remember how to get to it.
The place may have already been mentioned in a couple of posts. We had to drive down a gravel road over a rough railroad track to get to it, but it was still within the city limits of K.C.
Best brisket sandwich I ever had. The cole slaw was also the best I ever had.
The best part was we ate late so we caught the first set of this guy singing the blues. Had a blast.
I know I didn't give much info. to where this place is, but if anyone can help me out so I can find it again, I will be eternally grateful.

B.B.'s Lawnside BBQ -- Where Bar-Be-Que meets the Blues!
Just past the tracks on 85th. Don't know about the gravel, but the road has not been paved recently.

A couple of comments on the entries so far:
Jack Stack - like I said good but if you want better and more authentic and the almost exact same style try Smoke Stack at 89th and Wornall which is run by the sister of the guy who owns Jack Stack. There beans are better than Jack Stacks and the meat is a little higher quality. Can't beat Jack Stack for the variety though like lamb and fish and the cheesy corn bake.
Arthur Bryants - all time fav, go to the 17th and Brooklyn location for the ultimate experience.
Gates - every once in a while the burnt ends on the bun is the best bbq experience you will ever have but other times too fatty or too salty or both.
LCs - another fav but recently had some Health Dept. issues that have scared off a few folks.
Famous Dave's - consistently good no matter where in the country we have eaten at. We are not zealots on the style of cooking, if it tastes smoky, tender and good with good sauce we are there. While there try the bread pudding, it is excellent.
Smokin Guns, RJs Bob-B-Que, Johnnys were all featured on Diners Drive Inns and Dives recently so the business there has boomed so expect it to be busy.
Ones not mentioned:
Have to try Brobecks at 107th and Nall for the best pulled pork this side of East Tennessee. Their mustard sauce for the pulled pork is excellent.
Others you could try are:
Smokehouse - a cousin of the Jack Stack/Smoke Stack lineage
The Little Pig - a startup in Belton MO has been good the three times I have been there.
Snead's - way south but worth the drive. Call ahead to make sure it is open because they have some funky hours.
For sightseeing info you could check out my wife and I's full-timing RV blog and the Kansas City article at: How to Love Where You Are and Eat Where the Locals Eat!!: Kansas City is NOT boring (restaurants, sightseeing)
There was an update on the KC article: How to Love Where You Are and Eat Where the Locals Eat!!: Update on Kansas City is NOT Boring!
The full blog is at: How to Love Where You Are and Eat Where the Locals Eat!! If you willing to travel to Sneeds and the Little Pig, then you need to hit Oden's BBQ in Belton. The locals pack it in.

It is just past the Mexican restaurant with the airplane on top. Great BBQ and coleslaw to die for.

They most likely are just sick and tired of seeing people come in, in sleeveless t-shirts and camo baseball hats, who let their kids run around the restaurant unattended and who ***** about the prices.
Nice Jean shorts by the way.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

Nice Jean shorts by the way. Not sure what you're ranting about. But I was referring to Arthur Bryant's.

You probably had never been to an establishment inside a ghetto before. The people working there are part of what makes AB great. They probably gave you hell because you didn't know what you wanted, took too long to order and asked them to repeat themselves 3 or 4 times.
