Route planning: Mary Greeley to Ankeny

My wife is working at Mary Greeley. We live in Ankeny. So today at least, we have a problem on our hands.

I'm looking at the City of Ames road closure map and wondering how she's going to get out of town. I know Stange is closed at 13th St. but could she get through that intersection on 13th?

Highway 30 to 17. South of Madrid take NW 158th through Polk City and 415 to Ankeny...

I think I've got that part of the route figured out. It's getting her from Mary Greeley to west Ames that I'm most concerned with.

im looking at a google map supposidly 180th isn't closed. North of cameron school road that is open. the only reason I know this is cause my boss needed to use it.

get on 24th street west and go out of town. go up to highway E23 that runs through Gilbert and head west. At R38 go south back towards ames. you can reach highway 30 on the west side of ames that way, and then go to highway 17 at boone, and head south towards des moines. watch out for traffic. it is a busy route, today.

Unless water goes down enough to open some roads in town it's going to be very difficult to leave that area.

There is no way across Ames. The only way to get from West Ames, to East Ames is through Gilbert. I-35 to GIlbert and then through GIlbert to COunty line road and south into West Ames. Now I have no idea how to get to I-35 from Mary Greeley though.

Mary Greeley is going to be tough to get to or from. Wife and I were there this morning, and tried to leave at approx 9:30AM. Just got home to Nevada about 20 min ago. That's right, 2 1/2 hours to get out of there. We ended up taking Bloomington Road north out of town to the country club, and cutting east to Hwy 69. Took that North to E18 south of Story City, headed to Roland and made our way south to Nevada. The traffic was absolutely nuts, but it worked. From Nevada you could get to Des Moinesvia Hwy 65/Colo. however, I'm not sure how long the route will be open, because there were several points where the water was rising and very close to the road. It may be impassable by now.

Just reiterating a point made in an earlier post. Traffic is very, very bad. I pulled up to a corner north of Ames and the line was ~2 miles at the corner, everyone trying to make a left turn.

Looks like Story City and Eagle Grove have closures.

13th IS open to Stange - from Stange she has many routes that can get her to Hwy 30 and she can do east to Hwy 69 south straight to Ankeny.

Traffic is crazy but the route is open.

She got hung up at work but she's about to leave. Sounds like she'll be okay on 13th on the west side of town. I'm going to send her west on 30 to 17 and then south, hoping to avoid some of the traffic.

Strange though...the Ames map has never shown 13th St. to be closed near the Aquatic Center but the Ames Trib web site says it was closed, as has numerous people.
