Cyclones in BCS--How soon???
How long will it take ISU to get into one of the BCS games???
I got into this arguement at work today with a dude who swears the Clones will be in BCS within 3 years...I argue it will be much long, perhaps never (especially if Big 12 breaks up in a few years and ISU is left to MAC or Mountain West.)

I love the Cyclones dearly and I have sat through decades of lean years, as have many of you. I have resigned myself to the belief that Iowa State is not, and will never be, a consistently elite program.
There will be years with overwhelming successes and disappointing failures. Occasional periods of success, followed by more lean years. I believe that is the best we can reasonably expect with our climate, academic requirements and budget.
Does that mean I love the Cyclones any less than someone who thinks we'll be in a BCS bowl by 2013? Absolutely not.

And boom goes the dynamite. I like your optimism and would consider BCS tickets very strongly if it happened that way. However, one of those W's in the preseason is gone (Tulsa on the road would be my pick) along with Nebraska and Colorado, replaced by Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. Air Force, A&M, and Missouri on the road are no guaranteed W's either. I'd see 8-4 or 7-5 with that schedule, assuming CPR has the players on the roster by then, especially some good D-linemen. Too early to see how a 9 game Big XII schedule will get things going in our favor or against us.

Re: Cyclones in BCS--How soon???
unless you win the conference or play for a NC its tough to do as there is a lot of backroom BS that can/does go on with at large BCS teams and at the moment ISU isnt a team too many will be pulling for behind closed doors

Re: Cyclones in BCS--How soon???
By the time ISU has the possibility of making a BCS bowl, there probably/hopefully won't even be BCS bowls. We will make the 8 team playoff for the National Championship instead. When Prepared, Fear No One. -

This thread is why people on HawkeyeNation think Cyclone fans are crazy.
We gotta compete at a consistent level first...

Re: Cyclones in BCS--How soon???
I think within 5 years we will have a year like kansas and go to a bcs game.

Re: Cyclones in BCS--How soon???
the thing about kansas, that could have happened to us in 2005, the stars really aligned with the schedules. A great team and a weak schedule (should) = breakout year.
now i will go drown my sorrows

Re: Cyclones in BCS--How soon???
Kansas in 2007 is a good example of how it could happen. But I think it is more than just a good team with a weak schedule (shown by the result of the Orange Bowl) Kansas had a really good team, with several top flight talents
