I don't think they can account for the adrenaline the human body would produce in an actual mission. I'm no doctor, but my point is you think your body and mind would tolerate the mission easier if there was an ends to the means. It would suck to do it for 17 months, knowing you are still in the same place. But I think it would be much easier doing 17 months if you were actually screaming through space, on your way to a planet for the first time in human history.....

Actually, the book I referenced further up talks about how astronauts have reported that the worst part of space travel is the boredom. On a long mission, this would be even worse. It's basically like being confined in a dorm room with a few roommates, and you can't go for a stroll when they get on your nerves.

For this reason, they are considering older, married couples to go to Mars together.

I'm not saying boredom would not be an issue. I'm saying I don't think the simulation can accurately reflect the boredom level because they are not on a real mission. On a real mission, it seems like they would be excited about what is going on. Kind of like a kid on a 4 hour plane ride to Orlando vs a 4 hour car ride across Nebraska to Ogallala.........

At least the simulation will probably show worst case scenario in that regard. Unless of course, the actual mission goes haywire, and they have to just float in space until they die......

I see what you're saying now. I was just pointing out that there wouldn't be much adrenalin, save for takeoff and landing.
