AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State secondary coach Jeff Koonz has seen a lot since starting out as a student assistant coach at Auburn in 2003, where he met current Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik. The native of Wallkill, N.Y. was a defensive graduate assistant for the Tigers in 2004. He went on to Texas where he was a defensive graduate assistant coach on the 2005 Longhorn national championship team.* Koonz joined the Texas staff full-time in 2006 before coming to Ames. Koonz' father is an assistant coach at Georgia Southern.
