Tigers paid the Twins a huge favor by taking 3 of 4 from the Sox.

Sox finish a road trip at 7-3, but Twins still manage to increase their lead by 2.5 games. Unreal.

Accuscore now has the Twins at 94.1% chance of playoffs and the White Sox at 7.8%. Realistically, the Twins should only have to win 1 game in Chicago next week to all but lock up the division.

The Twins have it locked up. They've just been playing lights out lately, and the Sox were playing well also but injuries piled up here towards the end.

Great season to break in Target Field. I just hope we don't have to play the Yankees in the first round.

Both teams have been dealing with injuries. The signing of Jim Thome is the difference in the race. I hope the Twins clinch early enough to get their rotation set up for the playoffs.

It's not looking likely.

Twins are up 6.5 on Texas now, so they'll play the wild card. Yanks are 2.5 ahead of Tampa for the WC.

I think the Twins are in very good position to win the division, and do it early, if they can stay healthy and consistent.

That being said, once we get to the playoffs...we're still running into the likes of the Yankees...

Doesn't the top seed choose who they play? Hence the Yanks picking Minnesota coming off of game #163 instead of playing the wild card team?

maybe...I didn't think so, but I'm probably wrong.

I thought the best record played the wild card, unless they are from the same division. Then the best record plays the worst division winner and the second best record plays the wild card.

Last year the twins would have had the worst division winning record and the wild card was from the yanks division, right?

No. Best record plays the wild card team, unless they are in the same division. If that's the case, then it goes to the division winner with the worst record.

I think the yanks got to choose when the first game was, not who it was against.

Nope, the Yankees played the Twins because the Red Sox were the Wild Card (who they couldn't face in the first round) and the Twins had a worse record than Anaheim. The Yankees got to choose to play the very next day after the Twins won a 12-inning game 163 (very smart by them). As it stands right now, as long as the Twins stay ahead of the Rangers and the Yankees ahead of the Rays, the Twins would be playing the Rays in the first round (doesn't matter who between the Yankees and Twins have the better record, but it would be sweet if the Twins eclipse the Yankees).
