Just imagine if Guillen is actually interested in the Florida job and Sandberg is the next manager on the South Side. It won't happen, but it'd be funny seeing people flip out.
just make him the Cubs' manager and get it over with. If the Cubbies lose him to somewhere else, I want Hendry's head on a stick...
It would be pretty bad if the Cubs don't give Sandberg the job. Kind of like the Dodgers passing on Scoscia when FOX bought the team, and we've regretted it ever since.
Maybe Cito just doesnt want to manage anymore but if he does and the Jays arent letting him, they are painfully stupid. They guy wins to series and then brings them back to some level of respectability in the BY FAR toughest division in baseball.
Oh, and I don't give two craps who manages the Cubs.
I hope he goes there or anywhere for that matter. I hope the Cubs just hire Quade and get it over with. No Ryno.
Are you at all worried that the Cubs are winning pointless games right now? Spring training games and September running out the string games need to be put in context. I'm more worried about this in terms of player evaluation over picking a manager, but still.
I'm not saying that Quade shouldn't get a crack at this thing, right now he'd be my pick. Maybe he's the next Jim Leyland who toiled away in the minors for 20 years before getting a shot at a big league club? The idea that Ryno "knows" the organization and what it's like to be a Cub is wildly overblown in my opinion.
It's not just the record that's been impressive so far. It's the way Quade has constructed the lineups, the way he uses the bullpen and the way he holds players accountable. Not to mention he is great with the media. Ryno probably doesn't know the first thing about talking to the media and one that's as tough as Chicago.
I also hope he gets the Toronto job so the Cubs hire somebody else.
I'm not sold that Ryno is the best guy for the Cubs job right now and I would also hate to see him take it and end up failing and have to boot one of their own to the curb. I think the way the team has played under Quade so far (something like 18-8 I believe) he's making a strong case to keep the job and he's put in many more years in both the minors and on the bench in the majors than Ryno has. Under Quade the Cubs have lost no more than 2 games in a row and went 6-0 in back to back series against the Cards and Marlins which I don't think Lou had any more than a 4 game win streak all season. They've played tough so far this week against the Giants who are battling for a playoff spot and could win that series tonight possibly with Dempster on the mound. They have a 4 game series at San Diego next week too that will play into that division pennent race too.
I think Hendry is waiting to see how Quade finishes the season out and possibly seeing if there is any chance at Girardi too. I don't feel that Ryno is their #1 choice quite yet otherwise they would have just handed him the job by now.
It also doesn't sit right with me that Ryno won't accept being a bench coach with anyone for a couple of years. I don't like how he thinks he's earned the right to just be given a managerial job because he's been in the minor leagues for 4 years.
