NFL Personal Fouls Getting Rediculous

I am watching the Jets and Dolphins game right now and just saw a call go against a Dolphins defensive back for hitting the head of the receiver. The db was coming up to make a hit on the receiver and the ball was dropped. The DB kept coming and the WR dropped his head and the DB ran into him. This call made it go from what would have been a 3rd and 20 to a first down. There have also been a ton of calls for QB hits that in my opinion are pretty soft. Roughing the passer I could see, but most of these calls have been a blow to the head of the QB, which is more of a tap. To me QBs are players just like everyone else, and they have helmets on for crying out loud. I know that the NFL is trying to protect the players with all of the concussions happening, but there needs to be a bit of discretion used, because some of these calls are getting a bit ridiculous.

That was a good call....it was a no brainer. The DB came in on a defenseless WR and was leading with his helmet. Its going to be called every time now and its the right call.

I'm watching the game too and agree that it sucks that the call had to be made. Both players were in motion and had the WR not dropped his upper body that would have been a non-call. The DB could have dropped to the ground before taking the shot and it would have been avoided as well. However, I'd rather have overcalling of fouls than allowing refs to use their opinion.

I agree. The Call last week on the Ravens (Suggs maybe) against Carson Palmer was absolutely ridiculous. The guy tackled him right in the torso just as he let the ball go and was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty.. I think the QB is way overprotected, the way it is set up now they could almost play without helmets. And anymore, the QBs know it and go to the official right away and complain about getting slapped in the side of the head. Kind of dumb in my book

It's the correct call according to the rules but its a bs rule. That play was a perfect example. The DB couldn't have avoided the contact, in situations like that they can't control where the WR is going to go and there was no malicious intent.
