Most overrated player/coach?

I hate to say it, but any white college basketball player who stays four years and tries really hard. Example: Tyler Hanesboro. Great player, but if he played in an era where all the best players stayed all four years, he would have been overshadowed by a lot of truly excellent players. We have one in Jake Sullivan as well.

I am also of the opinion that white basketball players are one of the most put down group of athletes in the business, but if you have a good one that stays a long time and has a great "motor" then my god it gets blown out of proportion.

I don't know Bryce. Tyler Hansbrough was a stud as a freshman. JJ Redick put up near 30 a game for Duke. Nick Collison set Big 12 records.

Could a Michael Beasley have done the same if he stayed all 4 years? Sure. But those guys were still the best in basketball while they were in college

Les Miles really isn't overrated at all. Most people are thinking he will be fired sometime soon.
Agree on Tom Brady actually. I have never understood the logic that players somehow get better if they win a Superbowl. Doesn't that mean that they just have better players around them? Championships shouldn't be the only thing that matters when trying to decide how good a player is.

"Most" people have no freaking clue then. Unless Miles and LSU fall apart he is not going anywhere anytime soon. Yes there are times wen as an LSU fan he makes me want to pull my hair our, but he also is the winningest LSU HFC since the 1920s.

Unless LSU looses 5 or more games this year he is not going anywhere. Even with 5 losses he is likely very safe.

Les Miles underachieved every year he was at Okie St, not much has changed. He has hands down the most talent every year and finds a way (usually several) to blow it.

As far as player Brett Favre, hands down and its not even close. He's a week 6 gamer, he has no problem stepping up when it doesn't matter but we all know what happens come playoff time.

Kirk Ferentz....A lot of those top coaches in the highest paid list have won a national title...or more than 1 BCS game...just sayin

John Stockton - maybe best pure PG of all time, only 3ppg less career and much better in point guard stats, very similar defender to GP
Jason Kidd - only slightly less scoring and again much better as a pure point guard, again similar defender to GP
Allen Iverson - much, much better scorer than GP yet managed to have similar steals and assists stats
Kevin Johnson - same ppg average, much better assist man, not as good a defender though
Isaiah Thomas - only a four year overlap here, but other than Stockton IT smokes any of these other guys as a point guard
Chauncy Billups - more the type of player GP should be compared to, similar players
Steven Nash - played in the league together almost a decade although primes don't overlap, Nash is light years better as an offensive pg, GP obviously a better defender

Don't want to mention Magic because he was such a unique PG, but there's yet another one.

Not saying GP wasn't good, but he doesn't crack my list of top 10 players from the 90s, not even close. For example: GP led the league in steals one time and 3 point makes once (shooting only 34% though, he certainly did hoist up stupid shots unlike the other poster said, led the league in 3 pt attempts too). Stockton led the league in steals twice, and assists nine times. GP is more like Kevin Johnson and Chancy Billips than Thomas, Stockton or even Kidd.

Wow you're really using a loose definition of his prime. I'm surprised you didn't throw Chris Paul on their too since their careers overlapped a little too. Let's just call Payton's prime his time in Seattle. During that period Nash never averaged more than 10 ppg or 6 assists not to mention being one of, if not the worse, defensive point guards in the league. So let's get him off this list right away.

Johnson did have slightly more assists and similar scoring averages but Payton was a much better rebounder and defender. After the '91 season Johnson made one 2nd team All NBA squad and one 3rd team All NBA squad. Payton made two 1st team appearances and five 2nd team appearances. Pretty obvious who's a better player.

Thomas and Stockton - two of the best pg's of all time. No argument but Thomas didn't make an All NBA team after '87 so Payton was much better in the 90's.

Kidd - nowhere near the scorer that Payton was, averaged over 17 ppg one time, Payton averaged over 20 seven times, may have been a better pure pg but Payton was the better guard until the early 2000's

Iverson - not really a pg, led the league in turnovers several times, terrible assist to turnover ratio, an extremely inefficient scorer, terrible 3 pt shooter

Billups - if you think Billups is anywhere near as good as Payton you're either really young, or don't know much about basketball. Average defender, not a good penetrator, only made one 2nd team All NBA team and it was in 2006, well after Payton's prime

So in the 90's the two best point guards were Payton or Stockton, Payton made six 1st or 2nd All NBA teams from '94-'01, along with being 1st team All Defensive every year in that stretch. So yes he was without a doubt one of the 10 best players in the league during that stretch.

I've heard it argued plenty. 3 super bowls and if he wins a 4th he will be with Montana as best ever. I hear that a lot and don't buy it. Same as Roethlisberger. Solid QB in a great organization. Give me Dan Marino over both

With you on Roethlisberger. Good QB, but not near the props he gets. Of course his personal run ins have made people cool on him some.

Except for turnaround one of the worst NFL franchises in history and take them to two NFC title games and lead UNC to back to back top 10 finishes and also resurrect a Texas program that hadn't finished in the top 10 since 1983 and ran off four straight 10+ win seasons. But yeah, besides that they hadn't done anything.
