Not much of a loss, IMO. Surprised the Yankees wanted him, to be honest.

Maddux apparently is not ready to be pitching Coach that would have been nice. I am sure we will find someone good. Although, how attractive is it to Coach Z who almost hit Larry with a bat during a tantrum.

I may be in the minority, but I'll miss Larry.

I've wanted Larry out for years. I can't believe the Yankees want him.

He had Ted Lilly pitching incredibly well, and helped Dempster return to the starting role and play very well. Not sure anyone could control Z. The issues we have had are due to personnel in the Bullpen, and not to Larry IMO.

Living here, Chicago sports fans have this warped mentality that winning defensively is manly and winning by scoring a lot is feminine. Bears can lose 13-7 and the next day 90% of call in shows will be ripping on the defense instead of the pathetic 7 point offense.
Same thing with the Cubs. Chicago fans think it's somehow more admirable to win games 2-1 or 1-0 than to win 7-5 or 6-4. Stupid.
Cubs pitching has not been the major problem, other than some bad luck with injuries from time to time.

Re: Cubs lose Rothschild to Yankees
Larry doesn't understand the most fundamental rule about pitching; the best pitch in baseball is strike one. Larry teaches his pitchers to nibble at the corners and Cubs pitchers are consistently working from behind. This produces very high pitch counts and not a lot of innings, a staple of the Cubs pitching staff under Larry.
I don't believe he is a mechanically sound pitching coach.
He doesn't know how to build a bullpen and he doesn't know how to use it either.
Shocked that the Yankees with their pitching probs in the playoffs would take Larry, I believe he will only make their probs worse.
