Re: Cubs close to signing Kerry Wood back!
Marshall and Wood as setup men would be awesome.
But since we are talking Hot Stove Cubs, I have a few more things I'd like to see:
I really want them to sign Brandon Webb too.
Then, if the talk is true and the Yankees are seriously looking at trading for Zambrano I say trade him for Brett Gardner or Nick Swisher and a top pitching prospect. I'd prefer Gardner and the prospect because it would give us a true leadoff guy. Bye Bye 18 mil per year Z salary.
Last thing on the list would be to find out how serious KC or Tampa would be about trading Greinke or Garza. We have the prospects to get a deal like that done.

Re: Cubs close to signing Kerry Wood back!
I would love to see Woody back if the money is right. I think Ricketts realizes he needs someone to be the face of this team. While that's never been a set up man, it could work in this case. It would be fun to see him back.

I love Kerry but the Cubs dont have the cash.
Ricketts needs every dime for future marketing...or whatever he's calling it . Hopefully the rumors are true and the Yankees take Big Z. That would clear up a ton of cash. While I'm sick of seeing the Cubs overpay for every player they get, I would rather overpay for a player who is a fan favorite and had great success last year than a time bomb waiting to explode on the field or in the clubhouse.

I think the dugout is the place the Big Z is most likely to explode. That's where his most legendary exploits happen.

Exactly, as much as I like to watch baseball players attempt to beat the crap out of the gatorade cooler, I'd rather it not happen in my teams dugout.

+1 (for doubting you)

WE GOT WOOD!!!!!!! -
Re: Cubs close to signing Kerry Wood back!
This is great news. Hard to believe that he signed a one year deal and that the deal was for 1.5 mill with the current reliever market. With all of these middle relievers getting 2 and 3 year deals for big money ( for example Bobby Jenks just signed with the Red Sox 2 yr's for 12 mill). It is nice to see someone pick a club cause he wants to be there. Have to believe if he performs well this season that a bigger deal is in the wings.
Hopefully this is the first of many offseason deals involving pitching for the Cubs.

Re: Cubs close to signing Kerry Wood back!
Am I the only one that thinks this ends badly for the Cubs? I can picture it now.... Wood blasts through April and May posting the lowest ERA for a relief pitcher in the MLB. Cubs fans are ecstatic and starting to really believe that this is the year they win it all. 1st of June arrives and Wood destroys his rotator cuff and his elbow blows out. His season is over and most likely so is his career. The Cubs fade fast to a last place finish in the NL Central. Sounds about right. TRA #13 -

Just gotta enjoy the wins you can get when you get them.

I still remember watching the game when Wood went crazy striking out 20 guys or something like that. Hell... that may have been his rookie season. I can't recall all of the details though. I guess I am getting old. TRA #13
