Cubs close to signing Kerry Wood back!

Am I the only one that thinks this ends badly for the Cubs? I can picture it now.... Wood blasts through April and May posting the lowest ERA for a relief pitcher in the MLB. Cubs fans are ecstatic and starting to really believe that this is the year they win it all. 1st of June arrives and Wood destroys his rotator cuff and his elbow blows out. His season is over and most likely so is his career. The Cubs fade fast to a last place finish in the NL Central. Sounds about right.

Sean Marshall was awesome last year as a setup man. If Lou wouldn't have had to use him darn near everyday in stretches, his stats would have been even better. Having both Marshall and Wood should help to keep both of them fresh.

I do hear ya tho Wood is 33. But this is actually low risk, given that it is 1 yr and 1.5 mill, and very high reward if he throws like he did in NY last year.

Edit - I loved it that the Red Sox got Jenks. White Sox miss on both Wood and Jenks hilarious.

Well I certainly hope he doesn't get injured. I still remember watching the game when Wood went crazy striking out 20 guys or something like that. Hell... that may have been his rookie season. I can't recall all of the details though. I guess I am getting old.

The sad thing on that game is that it was a one-hitter. I really wished he could have gotten the no no.

That's a heck of a discount for the Cubs. Hendry should use whatever drugs he used on Wood to get Soriano and Zambrano to try and renegotiate their contracts.

or did you happen to think of how much he loves the cubs *******? kerry is a cub forever. even if he is terrible for them this year it wont matter, the fans will love him forever! hes made a lot of money in his career, and he wants to go back to the north side. its not because he hates some team or anything like that. he wants to be with the cubs. he never wanted to leaved.

He's said like 100 times that he'd never wear a Sox uniform, so I don't know why Sox fans are all surprised.

This helps offset some of the weirdness that was the Peña deal for them.
