Who would you choose?
With this year's pro bowl selections being announced, I had a interesting discussion with a friend of mine about the best active players in the league. It was a good discussion, and I thought it would be a good one to bring up, here.
Basically, we were going position by position, and selecting the best active player for 3 different scenarios: one game, one season, and the best player to start a team with.
So, for example take QB.
In my opinion, the QB I'd most like to have in a must win game is Tom Brady. The guy is one of the best clutch quarterbacks ever to play.
For a single season, it would be Peyton Manning. No one prepares game in and game out, like he does.
And the QB I would take to start my franchise would probably be Aaron Rogers. He's only 27 years old, is already one of the top QBs in the league, and has proven that he can get it done despite lots of injuries, poor line play, and a lack of running game.
Remember, we're talking about active players playing how they are today. You can't pick 26 year old Bret Favre to start your team. It'd have to be the 41 year old variety.
QB/RB/WR are the obvious ones, but some of the other positions are fun to discuss.

Re: Who would you choose?
I'll do running back next.
Single game: Chris Johnson. The guy is lightning in a bottle. Give it to him enough times, and he's going to make a big play.
Single Season: MJD. He does everything. Tough runner, good receiver, good blocker, and he does it for the Jags. Put him on a team like New England and he's a yearly MVP candidate.
Start a Team: This is tough. Jamaal Charles is going to be pretty good for a while, I think. But Chris Johnson is pretty young, too so I would probably still have to go with him.

Re: Who would you choose?
Ill try WR.
Single game: Andre Johnson. Perfect frame for a receiver and has been a stud WR for years
Single Season: Larry Fitzgerald. Numbers were not great this year, but thats a reflectin on the QB play in Arizona. Give him a good QB and he is the best WR in the game.
Start a team: Calvin Johnson. Young stud in the making. Going to be a great WR for years if he stays healthy

Re: Who would you choose?
I agree with most of your picks except RB to start a team AP. His only problem is fumbling and except for 1 on Tues. he has fixed that problem.

Probably my favorite player on my favorite team. But, his running style does not lend itself to a long career. He punishes people, and his body take a beating. A guy like Chris Johnson doesn't take as many hits because of his running style, and that's why I selected him.

I said he was having a down year, and that I thought other AFC QB's are having better seasons this year, but I don't think I ever said he was overrated.

Re: Who would you choose?
I'll do Safety:
Game:Ed Reed. Dude can win games by himself
Season:Troy Polumalu. Very good consistent player.
Future:Taylor Mays. He is a freak.

You're going to start a team with a RB who has been in the league for 5 years? He's starting the downhill portion of his career right now IMO. RBs don't last long, especially ones who run like he does. Besides that he has been somewhat injury prone since college. I'm starting my little team with Arion Foster or Javhid Best.

Re: Who would you choose?
How about the QB for one game?? My pick is Joe 'Pro-bowl' Webb. Won with a depleted line, practiced only two weeks with the first team, as a 14 point underdog on the road to a play-off team.

It's a crazy thought, but you make a good point.
An argument could be made that Steven Jackson doesn't have any good OG's in front of him, but I think the beating he's taken has definitely caught up with him already. I almost hope the rams draft a RB in the first round.
I'll do middle linebacker
1 Game: Patrick Willis
1 Season: Patrick Willis
New Team: Patrick Willis

Thomas and Berry are much much better safety prospects. Heck he's barely even playing for a team with 5 wins
