in tackles for a defensive lineman. I did not know he was having this great of a year. Good for him and the Clones! Rhoads should show this to all the defensive tackle recruits you guys are begging him to sign!!

This is actually a pretty big deal. IMO, if you don't make a lot of tackles it doesn't really matter, but if you do, you are doing something outstanding.

I'm a big Rubin fan. I'm a big fantasy football nerd and play in leagues with IDP's, and he is on all of my teams. We get points for tackles, and he is killing for me!

tackles are a funny statistic. Each NFL team hires a crew to record game tackle stats for home games. The numbers they come up with are submitted to the league as "official." Then after the game, with the exception of a few teams, the coaching staffs review the game footage and submit their own tackle stats to the league, and they are considered to be the "official" numbers. As recently as 2008, Oakland, Miami, Houston, and Seattle were the only teams not to do this. The problem is that there is no consistency on what constitutes a tackle from team to team. Players have seen huge jumps and dips in their recorded tackles, and there have been cases where teams have reported impossible stats. (like recording more solo tackles than available defensive plays)

I'm not trying to discount Rubin's value. Just pointing out that tackle stats are a good guess at best.

Not sure there is a point here. Tackles will and always be a subjective stat, and unless the same person records it for every game it will not be consistent...

I guess Rhoads could, since Rubin did play at ISU. Kinda think the ex-ISU-now North Texas HC, you know, the guy who was the reason for Rubin coming here, will be mentioning this also...

That is exactly my point. Tackle stats are subjective, and sometimes complete fabrications because there is no standard for how they are recorded.

Saying Player X has 15 more tackles than Player Y is not as accurate of statement as saying Player X has 20 more receptions than Player Y, because the league has clear guidelines for what constitutes a reception, and it does not for tackles.

Imagine if you were comparing automobiles based on their miles per gallon, and each car company had a different measurement of what a gallon was. The MPG statistic would lose its meaning.

I'm merely calling attention to the way that tackles are recorded in the NFL, and that they don't really mean a whole lot.

How did Rubin do under that coach? I think Chizik could be milking this just as much.
All three entities should, and probably are, using this.

Chizik had the most success with Rubin, but he also got him for his junior and senior year. Last D lineman that was a difference maker for us.

Anybody know if the Browns run a true 3-4 defense? If so, and he is the starting NT, then those tackle numbers are even more ridiculous. Typically a 3-4 NT doesn't get a ton of tackles. Way to go Tuba!

I didn't know the NFL still did that. I know that in the NCAA, it is against the rules for a coach to have input on tackles. The numbers recorded by the press box are the official numbers.
