Well, at least ever since sabermetrics proved well after his retirement that he was a much better pitcher than he was ever given credit for during his career...

Congrats to those two, both well deserving. Hopefully in 2012 I'll be traveling to Cooperstown to see The Captain, Barry Larkin inducted.

I remember seeing this. I also concur that at least to my memory, he didn't really get a whole lot of attention while he was playing. At least not to the level you'd expect of a HOFer.

My hope as well. If anything, the lack of other good candidates should help him. Next year may be his best shot until late in his eligibility, like Bert.

Re: Blyleven, Alomar elected to HOF

Bert compiled great stats over time, but 0 Cy Youngs and 2 All Star appearances. He played in some great years for pitching as well. I think he is a hall of famer, but not as much as a sure thing as alot of people do. Larkin, Bagwell, Walker, and Palmeiro should all get in...

Letting Palmeiro in would open big can of worms. His stats definitely warrant his induction but that's not everything anymore.

Not until McGwire and Bonds get in, and I won't be crushed if neither do...

Bonds yes, McGwire isn't a hall of famer in my opinion and it has nothing to do with Steroids. One trick pony.

And I could care less about the can o' worms.

Yea, here is a pretty good article I found yesterday regarding Barry and the 2012 class.

John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus wrote the other day that "Larkin is Derek Jeter, with range" and I couldn't agree more.

You should have stopped at Bert had great stats. Postseason awards can be nothing more than popularity contests (see Jeter, Derek and Gold Gloves). Hank Aaron and Harmon Killebrew only won 1 MVP each - the HOF is about the career. Bert pitched in some great years for pitching? Was the strike zone bigger back in the 70s?! The great years for pitching were in the 60s before they lowered the mound.

Bagwell and Palmeiro played in great years for hitters, maybe that should be held against them. Walker compiled his best years while playing in Coors Field. Will that be taken into account?

Using All Star games to measure someone's success is a terrible idea.

Re: Blyleven, Alomar elected to HOF

Bagwell played in the Astrodome, hardly a great place to hit

And while All Star games may not be the best tool to measure a player, it helps to show how they match up against other players of that time. 2 All Star games in 23 years isn't that impressive.
