Todd Collins being a backup qb should be a fireable offense.

But in the "what-if" scenario where Hanie gets hurt that leaves the team zero options to run a QB out there. They would have had to finish the game with a non-QB in there.. It's sort of backing yourself into a corner at that point.
That said, Hanie was definitely the best option behind Cutler yesterday and Collins was doing his best to throw interceptions, so I can't blame them for putting Hanie in when they did.

This is the NFC championship, you can't wait three minutes to bring in Hanie and waste another possesion. They needed to go to Hanie right away. If he got hurt they would have been better off with Forte or Hester running the wildcat then with Collins under center.
Now why Collins was the number two and Hanie the number three is another argument. While I'm sticking with my opinion that he should have waited, your last sentence is something I've been wondering as well. Did the thought never cross their mind that Cutler could get hurt and they would be stuck with Todd Collins?

What's the purpose of that rule ? Read the whole article on why this happened and you will understand.

I truly believe that the Bears had a better chance to score with Forte or Hester running the wildcat than with Collins at QB. Collins looked worse than any NFL QB I've ever seen yesterday. He was inaccurate, he was making terrible reads. He wanted no part of that game. It was still a 14 point game at that point and they couldn't keep throwing the defense out there after quick three and outs.

The real head scratcher is that following the 2nd half of the Giants game and all of the Carolina game Hanie was moved to number 2 on the depth chart by outplaying Collins. Hanie stayed number 2 for weeks 6 and 7 behind Cutler. However, during the BYE week Martz inexplicably moved Collins back to number 2.
I don't know if Caleb is good enough to be a starter in the NFL, but i have always felt he is good enough to lead the team for 3-5 games if Jay (or Kyle before him) was out.

Re: If #3 QB plays #'s 1 & 2 cannot re-enter ?
one point being missed,it isn't about #3 QBs it's about the emergency QB. A team can choose to carry as many QBs on their game day roster as they want But if the emergency QB a player not on the active game day roster the QBs that have already played may not re-enter.

I do not know if Martz could have waited that long. Collins might have thrown another interception by then. Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Main reason. Tim Tebow. He basically had to be the second string QB all year because if he were the 3rd stringer and came into run a wildcat play he would have to play the rest of the game.
