Re: Williams to the Nets
Williams is a hell of a pg, but the Jazz got a damn good haul for someone who was going to leave next summer anyway.

Will Jerry Sloan un-retire now?

Re: Williams to the Nets
Does he cross the Hudson River as soon as the season ends, like is being speculated, or do the Knicks have their hearts set on CP3?

Knicks have major limits on what they can pay him. They would have to gut the rest of their team to own him since the cap is only about $58M and it may not be going up.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Williams to the Nets
Great trade for the Nets.
D-Will > Melo.

Okay, I misread the part in the article about where Williams becomes a free agent next season (I kept hearing this season). The Knicks are still going to have to choose one or the other following next season.

True, but with the Nets giving up this much for him I would think Williams must have indicated that he is willing to sign an extension with New Jersey. Of course he could say this, and still change his mind before then.
Chris Paul toasted at Carmelo's wedding this summer to one day running NY with Amare, he's now the only part missing.

Re: Williams to the Nets
Looks like the two draft picks the Jazz will get are New Jersey's pick this year and Golden State's first round pick in 2012 which is top 7 protected. The New Jersey pick could easily be in the 3-6 range this year, it's not a real strong draft this year but if the Jazz end up with Kyrie Irving this could be an extremely nice haul for a player who was going to walk in a year and a half anyway.

Re: Williams to the Nets
Deron Williams > Carmelo. He may not have the pizzaz of Carmelo, but if he signs an extension with the Nets this is a much better trade for the Nets.

It really depends on your perspective. First, they play two completely different positions (Melo is a SF, Williams is a PG). Second, Melo is the #5 scorer in the league, Williams is the #17 scorer. But to further that, what is the purpose of a PG supposed to be - to lead the team in scoring, or to distribute to the team's leading scorers? Third, yes, Melo is known for not being able to play defense, but D'Antonio doesn't coach defense in the first place - you think that's really a concern with him? Fourth, in a year and a half the Knicks are going to pick up a top level PG anyway, whether it's Chris Paul or the very Deron Williams that's being discussed (and for the last couple of years it sounds like Paul is the preferred PG).
So while perhaps Williams > Melo overall, acquiring Melo > acquiring Williams for the Knics right now.
