    How much longer for Stinson?

Heard Nick Nurse talk about him during the Miller round table yesterday and how it's amazing no one has given him a call up to the NBA yet. Curtis has been putting up some rediculous numbers lately. Was player of the week in the D-League last week averaging 31ppg, 7rpg, 12.5 apg, and 2.0spg. You'd think some teams like Cleveland, Washington, Toronto, New Jersey, Detroit, etc. who all are well out of the playoff picture and some needing help at the guard position would want to take a look at him on a 10 day contract at least.

His development as a true PG has been impressive and will be a huge plus in getting him closer to the NBA

Re: How much longer for Stinson?

Yeah, and it's not as if he's just recently been playing better. The guys's been producing consistently for the Energy for a couple seasons now. I look at some of the backup PGs around the NBA, and I don't really see a major difference between them and Stinson. I hope he makes it up, but it seems to me that Stern and Co. have not done a great job of developing the D League into a viable route for players to get to the big stage. Anybody know approximately how many guys have come up from the D League and stuck on an NBA roster?

I'm not convinced he ever gets that shot. If it doesn't happen in the next 10 days, it's not likely to ever come IMO.

Re: How much longer for Stinson?

If you think about player being drafted from NBDL, IIRC, the only player was a former Cyclone Mike Taylor :)
He only lasted one season with the Clippers in 2008/9 - played 51 games (started 5 games), 15.1 ppg 41.2% FG%, 1.7 RPG, 2.1 APG and 5.7 PPG.

Overall NBDL is used as a stop-gap to fulfil team's urgent need for short time. Timberwolves used to sign these players on 10-day contracts and extend them until they reached the max.

Re: How much longer for Stinson?

He is 28 years old now. The clubs that are out of the playoff picture aren't looking to get a guy at his age, they are looking for the "upside" guys. Plus, if you call someone up from the D-League, it is not free. So teams are saving an extra couple hundred grand by limiting their roster size.

It's unfortunate because Curtis is good enough to be on an NBA roster with most of his skills, but his age and lack of consistent three point shot are preventing teams from giving him a shot.

Wow I can't believe he's already 28 now, but I recall an article in the Daily mentioned about a 21-year old Freshman basketball player.

I wish stinson would get a shot for the NBA, Mike Taylor did and Stinson is a much better player than Taylor.

What's even more amazing to me is that he doesn't say screw it and go make good money over in Europe. I can't imagine NBDL players without an NBA contract make any money, and a player of Stinson's caliber would make good money overseas. I know he had a little trouble wherever he started, but you can't tell me the Spanish or Italian leagues wouldn't take him-- and there is big money in those leagues.

I just wish Stinson and Blalock would have stuck it out one more year. Although they would have been playing McDermott ball so maybe it was a smart move.

This. I recall reading somewhere (might have been NBA.com) that the average NBDL salary is around 40K. The temptation to go overseas and make some real money has to be strong.

He should get a nod to the next level with those numbers, but NBA teams are being cheap as it sounds, plus age is a major factor now for him...especially in a league like the NBA. If I were him, I would go Euro next season.

    It's a damn shame.

Clearly somebody wasn't on message boards when he played here.
