Cubs starter Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner will begin throwing programs Friday and a team physician will reevaluate them at the end of the homestand.
Wells, who has a forearm strain, said he expects to make a minor league rehab start in two weeks or so.
"I've never been through this before, and I'm not a very patient guy," Wells said. "If I'm feeling good I'm going to try to push it. One thing I'm not going to do is try to force anything that's not there yet. I'll be a little careful, but if I feel good, I'll try to get back in there as quickly as I can."
Cashner, who has a rotator cuff strain, is expected to return a little later than Wells.
