Here's the list of players that have won back-to-back with different teams (from nhl.com). Don't know if any are goalies.

Holmes was a goalie. Gerard wasn't a goalie, but he went three consecutive years with different teams.
So he's not the first, but could be the first in almost a century?.....wow!! I think it's more impressive for a goalie to do it than just a regular player. Goalie is out there pretty much the whole game by himself, he doesn't get shifts off.
And he has to gel with new teammates too.
It would appear that Niemi would be the first NHL goalie to win back-to-back championships with different teams. Holmes was a goalie for Seattle/Toronto in 1917-1918 when the Stanley Cup was awarded to the champion of the NHA (National Hockey Association.)
What I find impressive is that according to the nhl.com list, only 12 guys have won back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships with different teams when the Stanley Cup has been handed out for over a century.Quote:

It would be cool if he could pull it off, he is a hell of a goalie and SJ deserves a cup. I hope for a TB v SJ Stanley Cup, just because I hate Vancouver and the Bruins already have Cups to speak of. TB does as well, but a second one wouldn't hurt and if I am not mistaken SJ doesn't have one yet. That being said I think Vancouver is gonna skate off with the Stanley Cup the Sedin brothers along with Luongo will be too much to deal with for SJ though I think it will go to a game 6 or 7. They will be playing, I think, TB who is hot as hell from the East and could maybe even steal that Stanley Cup from Vancouver.
I actually think it might be easier as a goalie. No other single player has as much impact on team's success. There are goalies who have almost singlehandedly carried their teams through the playoffs (think Kipprusoff in 2004).Quote:

I'd like to add Mike Richter in 1994 for the NY Rangers. Sure the Rangers had other talented players (Brian Leetch, Messier, etc.) but Richter stood on his head that whole playoff year! That was my first year ever watching hockey and is the reason I adopted the Rangers as my team.Quote:
