    Re: Best Player in MLB

If I could pick one player to build a team around, it'd probably be Tulowitzki. And as a Yankee fan, my second would be Robbie Cano.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I'm jealous of the Yankees being able to convert a minor league third baseman into, IMO, the premier 2B in the MLB.

I'd take Hanley Ramirez over Tulo any day, he's having a down year so far, but is ridiculously talented and still very young. I haven't seen anybody mention a pitcher, but I think Felix Hernandez or Tim Lincecum could be thrown in the discussion as well.

In the next 5-7 years, I can see cases being made for Andrew McCutchen and/or CarGo

CarGo has been a huge disappointment this year. Last year is looking like a fluke for both he and Ubaldo.

He's a 5-tool player so I think he'll eventually come around. The thing with Ubaldo is that his primary catcher last year was Olivo. He looked unstoppable the first half of the year but tailed off at the end. Almost identical to Olivo catching for Greinke the year before. Regardless, I'm sure most teams would love to have Ubaldo on their team just because of his talent.

As a Yankee fan it pains me to say Dustin Pedroia. Dude is money.

CarGo is a good player, but there's no way he's in the discussion for best player in MLB. His gaudy numbers last year were almost entirely a product of playing in Denver. He hit .380/.425/.737 at home and .289/.322/.453 on the road (26 of his 34 homers were hit at home too). When your home ballpark has that much of an influence on your production, you aren't one of the best ballplayers in the game. And as Rulzzz pointed out, his numbers this year aren't looking so hot.

Albert Pujols hands down. There is no player that gets as much respect from pitchers as him and he is a gold glove fielder. Best hitter in the game and one of the best fielders in his league.

I love Ryan Braun - but not the best player, yet. I also can see the Albert Pujols & Jose Bautista arguments - very solid. I'm gonna go a different direction and look at it from a longevity standpoint : Mariano Rivera - that guy is AMAZING!!! Unbelievable career. Even though I absolutely HATE the Yankees, Mo would get my vote right now.
Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

I never said he was the best player in the MLB, right now. However, I did say in 5-7 years he could be. It all depends on how he develops at the big league.
