I want to hate the hire so bad, but last I checked the only pitcher in the Yankees rotation with an ERA over 4 was Ivan Nova. If he keeps A.J. Burnett's head removed from his ***, I can't not like the hire.

Nobody else would be doing any better. This team just isn't set to win this year.

You forgot James Russell and Justin Berg have both started and it was several games in Russell's case. What is crazy is to look at some of the batting averages on the team. Castro, Barney, Byrd (DL), Johnson (DL), Baker (DL), and Fukudome are all hitting over 300. But no one can get a clutch hit. And starting pitching has been atrocious. Three of the 5 starters have been on the DL already, and the "ace" of the staff Dempster has a 6.00 ERA. To top it off Woody hasn't been the greatest and Marmol already has 3 blown saves in a year when we can't afford any.
I think Quade deserves two whole years, and I hope he gets them. I'm still holding out hope that once the team gets healthy they can make a run. But I'm losing faith that can happen. Their next 10 games are on the road against St Louis, Cincinnati, and Philadelphia. They could easily be 15 games back after the road trip.

Re: How long will Mike Quade last?
Sad enough, i can't remember the last game i turned on. I stopped watching after the last Cardinals series. I just check their website every now and then to see how they are doing.

Theriot 195 AB, .303 AVG, .693 OPS, Age 30, Salary 3.3M
Barney 201 AB, .303 AVG, .709 OPS, Age 25, Salary 417K
Castro 227 AB, .313 AVG, .765 OPS, Age 21, Salary 440K

Re: How long will Mike Quade last?
The problem isn't Quade. The problem is Jim Hendry, and has been for the last several years. Plus, a worthless team president and a clueless owner.
The greatest manager in history couldn't win with this team.
Not saying Quade has done a great job, but I don't blame him. Cubs have a team of grossly overpaid players, who are below average. Soriano is getting superstar money to be an average hitting outfielder who is a joke in the field. Ramirez is getting superstar money and has hit 2 or 3 homers all season. Fukodome has 5 RBI's after 54 games....and he's getting $12 million a year. 5 freakin ribbies in 1/3 of the season. Zambrano is getting superstar money and while above average, has not been putting up anything approaching superstar numbers for a few years.
None of that is Quade's fault. Nobody has gotten less production from more $$$$$ than Hendry.

Is it Quade's fault the Cubs' have the worst starting pitching ERA in the NL? Is it his fault 1/2 the lineup has already (or is) on the DL? Is it his fault that the Cubs' collective batting average is much, much higher than last year but no one can get a clutch hit?
Quade is just fine. The players like him and he is making the most of what he has IMO.
Now...how Hendry still has a job is beyond me. The guy is responsible for this monstrosity of a top MLB payroll yet has one of the worst teams in the league.

You really think so? I always liked Rothschild and thought he did a nice job.

Re: How long will Mike Quade last?
Sandberg or no Sandberg, this team was not going to be good this year. Their starting pitching isn't very good plus guys have been hurt. They have a bunch of aging veterans on the decline and they can't hit with runners in scoring position.
I don't think it is Quade who is causing them to play sub .500 ball.

Re: How long will Mike Quade last?
I hate to say it but the cubs have been more pathetic than usual this year. losing 5 of 6 at home to the pirates and astros? horrible. I love the cubs but I can't bring myself to turn on a game. can't even get excited when we get 2 on and nobody out because I know the runners will get stranded. pathetic..

Hendry is great at making deadline deals and is as creative as they come when it comes to making trades. The problem is they guy overpays for players that have peaked and are looking for a place to land.
