Giants GM Makes Controversial Comments on Cousins-Posey Collision
Giants GM Brian Sabean blasts Scott Cousins over Buster Posey collision - ESPN
Quote:
"Why not be hard-nosed?" Sabean told the radio station. "If I never hear from Cousins again or he never plays another game in the big leagues, I think we'll all be happy."
Sabean didn't back down later in the interview; rather, he left little doubt that the Giants are planning on exacting some on-field revenge against Cousins.
"He chose to be a hero, in my mind, and if that's his flash of fame, that's as good as it's going to get, pal. We'll have a long memory," Sabean told KNBR. "Believe me, we've talked to (former catcher Mike) Matheny about how this game works. You can't be that out-and-out overly aggressive. I'll put it as politically as I can state it: There's no love lost and there shouldn't be."
One of the more disturbing parts of this story is this....
Quote:
Sosnick (Cousins' Agent) confirmed to ESPN.com Thursday night his client had received death threats since his collision with Posey last week, and MLB's security department was notified.
"It's just enough," Sosnick told ESPN.com of the criticism leveled at his client. "Scott can't say (enough) he's sorry that it happened."

D-Bag move by the GM, I hope he gets absolutely blasted in the media.

Collin Cowherd called him an idiot this morning. I could tell he wanted to call him an *** or d-bag. Didn't hear much else from him on the subject.
Re: Giants GM Makes Controversial Comments on Cousins-Posey Collision
It was a legal play, get over it. Also, this takes alot of power out of the players hands to get retaliation-- with this in the media if you take a shot at this guy you're tossed and maybe looking at a fine.

Dang, I actually agree with Cowherd on something.
Re: Giants GM Makes Controversial Comments on Cousins-Posey Collision
I hope his players show more sense than Sabean has. It wasn't even that hard of a hit. Fact is Posey was in an awful position and was basically immobile. When he started getting pushed the opposite way he was so prone he couldnt even roll but had to take the brunt right on his leg. Its highly unfortunate all around but there is no way a GM should be spoutnig off like that.
Re: Giants GM Makes Controversial Comments on Cousins-Posey Collision
This GM was the GM when JT Snow of the Giants (He played really hard) and he absolutely plowed Ivan Rodriguez, then with the Marlins, in the 2003 NLDS (?). Of course Pudge wasn't hurt and I think he held on to the ball (correct me if wrong).
JT Snow's thought on the Posey play? He thought it was a clean hit.

A lot of SF fans say he had a clear path to the plate. Well, sorry the polaroid wasn't developed when Cousins was barreling down the 3rd base line. It was the game winning run in an extra inning game. He is a borderline MLB-AAA player he has to prove himself. His teammates have his back. They were giving him high 5's in the dugout after he scored.

As a base runner I would go for the base instead of directing my body toward the catcher when he is not blocking the base. I believe in this situation it would have been easier to score if you tried to beat the tag. It was a legal hit, but an ill advised hit (the guy literally launched himself in the air at Posey). Just my opinion.
Re: Giants GM Makes Controversial Comments on Cousins-Posey Collision
GM is an idiot for saying this publicly. I am all for plunking this guy if he ever see an at-bat against SF again though. That's how the game works.
Re: Giants GM Makes Controversial Comments on Cousins-Posey Collision
Add me to those bashing this d-bag of a GM. The play was totally clean and injuries happen. As a Rockies fan and Bonds hater I have grown to loathe the Giants for years and that hatred just grew some more.

I saw on Marlins.com Logan Morrison said he got texts from Giants players after the game saying the hit was clean.
Re: Giants GM Makes Controversial Comments on Cousins-Posey Collision
What a total doucher. If the roles had been reversed - if it was a Giants runner barreling down the line and he smashed into the Marlins' catcher, breaking his leg, would Sabean be whining about how "dirty" of a hit it was? Of course not - what a freaking hypocrite...
Re: Giants GM Makes Controversial Comments on Cousins-Posey Collision
He didn't have to block the plate, catchers are still pretty mobile to run after the batter
