I guess this just strengthens the notion that everybody wants to be associated with the winner ! (even if the winner just beat you)

I guess I don't see this as a huge issue. Erick Dampier played for the Mavs for quite a while and I'm sure he is good friends with some of the guys that have been around there for a while. The NBA is a friendly league...you see before and after games that many of these guys are friends. If Dampier didn't go after a lose ball because he didn't want to hurt his buddy Dirk that's one thing, but at this point the series is over and I have no problem with him congratulating some friends.

Agree, the author of the story is an idiot. Class move by Damp in my opinion.

And the level of hate he mentions in the 50s and 60s is garbage to some extent. He needs to read some books about Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain and how those two would get together for dinner before and after games that they played each other in.
