Re: Sox and Cards Talking Rasmus
Addison Reed is the prospect being discussed by some Cards fans.

Your nuts, Rasmus is a former top 5 MLB prospect who is half a season off of an .850 OPS at a premium defensive position(CF) and is under team control for 3 more years following this one. He a potential star. Jackson meanwhile is a maddeningly inconsistent SP who is a FA following this year and Thorton is a excellent but aging RP. Rasmus is easily worth one or the other of those plus a quality prospect.

Jackson I guess I could maybe see, but not Thornton. He's untouchable, IMO.

That will result in the demise of the team IMO. Pujols is a greedy jerk if he's really asking for that kind of a deal. Unless he wants the Cardinals to be terrible for as long as he's there?
Reminds me of A-Rod when he went to the Rangers and took 250 million, and then whined and complained that the team didn't go out and get good players to surround him with. Excuse me? The Rangers didn't have any money left to go get anyone else after paying you A-Rod.
Same with the Colts and Peyton Manning. On the one hand, Manning demands to be paid more than anyone else in the NFL, while on the other hand also asking for the Colts to go out and get him some elite WR's to throw to. Unreal. Is it more important to win, or to get paid? I don't care which one you choose, you have every right to get what you can financially, but don't then blame the team for not getting other good talent to surround you with. I don't think many fans of any team want their team to give him that kind of dough, way too risky.
Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter. -

Jackson I guess I could maybe see, but not Thornton. He's untouchable, IMO. A one pitch reliever that will make 6 million next year in his age 35 season should never be untouchable, especially when he's not your closer.
Sale does the same thing anyways.

What a stupid trade by the Cards. Can anyone explain this?

Re: Sox and Cards Talking Rasmus
I was okay with moving Rasmus, but this is not a good deal.

Re: Sox and Cards Talking Rasmus
I always liked Colby but it was frustrating watching him make so many bone-headed mistakes in the outfield or go cold for weeks on end at the plate. That said, he is only 24 and he may yet realize his potential.
Edwin Jackson is an underwhelming return, but he should be OK in the NL Central and with Dave Duncan as his pitching coach. It sounds like Rzepczynski will fill the LHP relief specialist role nicely, which is a spot the Cards have badly needed to fill for awhile. Dotel and Corey Patterson are not any better than anything the Cards could have gotten from their own farm system.
So, it's not really a terrible deal, but it's not a great deal. Hopefully the Cards can still get a competent shortstop before deadline.

Re: Sox and Cards Talking Rasmus
The Cards traded a 24 year old OF with still a boatload of potential for a two month rental. God, TLR can be so damn stupid with the hatred he has for some of his players.

You trade him for a mediocre pither you can only control for 2 months and a freakin reliever.
And you had to give up prospects to boot? Oh, but at least you got Corey Patterson back in the deal -
