CHIEFS fans - Take notice!!!
KCCI originally scheduled the Chiefs - Bills game for their noon timeslot. They have since changed to the Steelers - Ravens game! This is a travesty! The Chiefs are the reigning AFC West champions, and the only AFC team within 700 miles of Des Moines. Yet Andy Garmin, the self-proclaimed Steelers fan, forces us to watch two East Coast teams. If he's forcing this on us on opening day, imagine what we'll get for the rest of the year! Take charge, Arrowhead Nation, and let Andy Garmin and KCCI know how rediculous this is. I'm going to let them know. I'm also letting WHO know they have a new viewer for all of their newscasts! the506.com - Home http://www.kcci.com/station/index.html

...And the home of the CHIEFS!!! -
Re: CHIEFS fans - Take notice!!!
I'd take Steelers/Ravens over Chiefs/Bills any day. Who'd want to watch that ugly of a game anyway?
Don't confuse hope for a plan. -

It's ok. I'm pretty sure the Lions are on FOX!

Re: CHIEFS fans - Take notice!!!
Terrible job out of KCCI, but what else is new?
I could see them making this decision maybe 5-6 weeks into the season, but opening weekend and they aren't showing the local team and instead choose a game with no local ties at all? Horrible.
Hopefully that game ends up in a blowout in the 1st quarter and has no excitement to it at all.

This. Steelers/Ravens is a far better game. I realize the Chiefs are closer, and would probably normally get better ratings, but on opening weekend the ratings will be there regardless.

If it were a Chiefs blowout, they'd still be getting the ratings throughout the game.
Still a ridiculous decision. I'm used to KCCI and FOX punking us with their decisions in the mid to late season, but not on the first weekend. Bad job outta them.

There could be a blowout, but I wouldn't count on it. Margin of victory for the last 5 Ravens vs Steelers game has been exactly 3 points each time. Have to go back 3 years to find a game won by double digits. It's become one of the best matchups in football, hence why the NFL scheduled it for week 1, and why KCCI decided to show it over the Chiefs game.

I'm keenly aware of the recent history of the Ravens/Steelers games and their margins of victory. I don't think you can count on that trend continuing in an opening game, but that is what KCCI is *hoping* for. There are too many unknowns early in the season.

I wish the cbs affiliate in Omaha would kick the chiefs out too. chief fans shouldn't worry too much, im sure they'll be on 10 more times this season.

Totally agree with this. Pitt/Balt better game than K.C. /Buff. The OP is just still bitter about Baltimore taking KC behind the woodshed in their own house.

Whine.
Steelers/Ravens is clearly the better and more marketable game.

Well, yeah that's what they're hoping for. That's the point. They're going to try to show the game that they think will have the most viewers. In a city like Kansas City, it's a no-brainer, but in the Des Moines market, where the Chiefs likely don't even have a plurality of fans, much less a majority, the question is more difficult.
Now throw in the fact that they play an absolute cupcake, the alternative game is one of the best matchups in the league, and the fact that it's opening weekend, so casual viewing will probably be higher than any other week in the regular season.
And you think it's Andy Garmin's fault they chose the other game?

well, I would say that says more about the Chiefs than anything, considering there was only one other team worse than Buffalo when it came to points differential, last year.
