And to answer the question. No.

Excellent night of baseball. Best I've seen.
Just wish my White Sox would have been involved in the action.

Re: Best night of Baseball ever?
Red Sox fans here at work are actually blaming the Yankees extra inning loss as the reason they didn’t get to a playoff game today. Like they think a team that has clinched is going to use their closer on Wednesday when they play for real on Friday? Blame the stupid way MLB has setup the post season. Last game on Wednesday and playoff on Friday. You used to finish on Sunday and then have a least a few days off to set up up your rotation etc. Detroit, Yanks, Phils etc were not going to pitch their closers or best starters on Wednesday when they have to play Friday. Girardi actually complained about it before these last games and said he won't use Rivera or Robertson. BTW, the Rays, "playing to win" used 26 players and the Yanks, supposedly "playing to lose" used 27 players. Rays had no one left on the bench and Yanks had only Martin. Ayala and Boone (116 games this year) can't hold a 7 run lead, Wade (2.04 ERA) can't get one more strike, Papelbon can't get one more strike and the Braves Kimbrel (he of 47 saves) can't save a game? Pick your winners: Yanks with 7 run lead going into the 8th. Winner = Yanks. Red Sox with one run lead in the 9th with Papelbon on the mound. Winner = Red Sox Braves with one run lead in the 9th with Kimbrel on the mound. Winner = Braves It's why I don't gamble on sports. -

Re: Best night of Baseball ever?
Any night where the Red Sox are eliminated from the playoffs has to at least tie for "best night". Bwahahahaha!

Re: Best night of Baseball ever?
Red Sox didn't deserve to be there after their September melt down. They'd of gotten rolled in a 5 game series with the way they've been pitching (despite Lester's decent outing last night).
Will have a fun post-season of cheering for whoever is playing the Yankees.

Re: Best night of Baseball ever?
Hate to defend the Yankees, but they earned the right to play the game however they wanted and it was in their best interest to rest guys and set up for the post-season... And it would be stupid for Red Sox to complain, I'm guessing the Yankees would MUCH rather play the struggling Red Sox with hardly any pitching than the Red Hot Rays with good young pitching...

The Rays may very well end up knocking the Yankees out of the ALCS.

Re: Best night of Baseball ever?
HiltonMagic- You're probably right that Kemp won't win it since the Dodgers aren't in the play-offs. But he led the national league in hits, home runs, rbi's, runs scored, and I think runners thrown out by an outfielder. Throw in 3rd in batting average and 40 stolen bases, all on a team that doesn't score a lot of runs, and it's hard to argue that he wasn't the best national league player, even if he doesn't win the mvp.
