Re: Francona Fired?
As a baseball fan, if Theo and Tito leave, I hope they both end up with the Cubs.
Don't confuse hope for a plan. -

Chicago Cubs - Where great careers go to die. But hey! we got lots of money!

Re: Francona Fired?
Boston needs a scapegoat, and they're sacrificing Francona. It sounds like a mutual departure, anyway. There's rumors of both going to Chicago, but on opposite ends of town. It's hard to imagine Epstein leaving Boston after their failure this year, but you never know.
I still think the Sox are going after Dave Martinez, which is fine with me. I'd be very happy with Francona, too.

Yep...I see Kenny Williams wanting to hire a guy with no MLB managing experience so he can have a "yes" man. Francona would be a great hire but I don't see Kenny doing that unless Jerry R tells him he has to hire him. This or Francona won't want to manage on the South Side because our roster is going to be very ugly (or young) next season...

Re: Francona Fired?
There is no way the BoSox are going to "fire" Francona. My guess is he knows that he can no longer effectively manage these players and it's best for both sides to get some new blood. Interesting stat I heard on Mike and Mike this morning, average tenure of a BoSox manager (not sure how far this went back) was 2.5 years. So Tito did pretty damn good to get 8 years and two WS titles.
I'll welcome both him and Theo back if they stay, but I understand if they decide to pursue other options.

Re: Francona Fired?
I would say that firing Quade and hiring Francona would be a no-brainer. I'm in.

I can just picture Quade settling in at home at the end of the rough season, putting his feet up, perhaps drinking a cold beer, and flipping on ESPN to see Francona is getting canned, spitting his beer out, saying "no...oh god no" and calling his agent immediately.

Re: Francona Fired?
Also, I think the loss of John Farrell really crippled the BoSox. It has become very evident how important that guy was for our pitching success.

The only person who thinks Mike Quade will be back next year is Mike Quade. I don't even think his agent thinks he'll be back next year.
Francona would look good on both sides of town.

Francona out: UPDATE: Francona out as Red Sox manager
Dan Patrick Show right now discussing the White Sox as possible suitors for TF.

Re: Francona Fired?
I'd love to see Francona in the Wrigley clubhouse next year....out of the American League.
And the Cubs grabbing him and Epstein would have them in command of the central in 5 years or less. Epstein built the Red Sox Billy Beane style and did a hell of a job.
