Why QB Aaron Rodgers is NFL M.V.P.?
Well, there is quite a few. First is the fact that the Packers are 15-1 thanks to stellar play by Rodgers who was able to make up for a porous Green Bay defense all season. In fact, thanks to their final game of the season, the Packers' defense finished dead last in yards allowed with over 411 yards per game. Without Rodgers leading the way week after week, Green Bay would not be 15-1.
Rodgers sets himself apart from Brees and Stafford as a QB who can play in the cold weather of Green Bay. Brees and Stafford tuck themselves away in their temperature-controlled stadiums and don’t worry about the 30-40 mph winds that often strike in Green Bay.
A lack of turnovers is another reason why Rodgers is the best QB in the league. He finished the season with only six turnovers. Brady had 14, Brees had 15, Stafford had 17, and all three of them were near the bottom of the league. But no one came even close to protecting the ball the way that Rodgers did.
Maybe the most telling stat is the fact that while Rodgers finished fifth in passing yards, he finished 16thin pass attempts! While Stafford and Brees were attempting their 663rdand 657thpassing attempt respectively on Sunday, Rodgers finished the year with only 502 passing attempts! Give Rodgers another 150 attempts and based on his averages he would have ended the season with 6,030 yards and 61 total TDs. Rodgers didn’t need to throw the ball 600+ times like Brady, Brees, and Stafford because he was so efficient in his throws down the field that he ate up yards in a fraction of the plays it took for other QBs to do the same. One final item that often gets overlooked in the value of Rodgers when he scrambles. Rodgers added 257 yards and three scores on the ground this season. Only Newton, Tebow, and Vick had more rushing yards, and Brees, Brady and Stafford only combined for 16 more rushing yards than Rodgers.
Had Rodgers played in Week 17, this might not even be a discussion. He would have finished the season with around 5,300 total yards and 52 TDs. A game off allowed a few QBs to at least enter the MVP discussion. But when it comes down to the final voting, Aaron Rodgers is the 2011 NFL MVP. -
