Minnesota should get an NFL team. They all should demand to get rid of the semi pro football called the Vikings.

The only problem with that is having to spend the money to upgrade it to NFL standards, and even then, the team loses money due to fewer seats and luxury boxes/suites. Even then, that may wind up being what happens.

I don't care what (or where) they build anymore, just keep the team in Minnesota!

Arden Hills is where they need to go. Agree that there is not enough room at the Metrodome site.

The plan they made at the new site looked very good. I understand why the city of minneapolis might want it in their city still, but it seems like the state shouldnt be going to bat for one city over another. (Especially when the Arden Hills site looks like such a better option)

I'm not all that familiar with the Minneapolis area, but isn't there some space near Target Field and the Target Center to build a new stadium? I would hate to see a stadium be moved out to the suburbs.

Dayton sure gave each city that submitted a proposal a great big middle finger, slap in the face to them, didn't he? IMO, if he lets the team leave, it's political suicide.

Re: Minnesota Governor: Vikings New Stadium Must be at Metrodome Site

I always thought the area just North of the Metrodome would be a good spot. Aren't there just some old bulidings and parking lots in that area? You could also develop that area all the way to the riverfront. Allows them to play in the Metrodome during construction and retains the existing light rail and freeway infrastructure. Once new dome is complete tear down metrodome for parking and development.

Re: Minnesota Governor: Vikings New Stadium Must be at Metrodome Site

Minneapolis is a suburban city. They would sell more tickets if the stadium were out in the Burbs. Not sure why they would want to add the cost of knocking the Metrodome down into the construction of the new stadium.

So I guess the better question is........ Will the franchise keep the name "Vikings" and purple and yellow colors when it moves to Los Angeles?

    This...
Really? Have you ever BEEN to the Metrodome? The light rail runs right past it. It's super close to 35 and isn't far from all of the downtown bars/restaurants. I totally understand why the state government would want them in the same place after all of the investment made by the state to allow access to the stadium. If the stadium is built in Arden Hills it will still fall on the government to provide new sewer, power, police, update the highways and probably expand the light rail out there eventually.

    It's like starting from scratch.

That's ******** IMO. If the Vikings want state money for the stadium, then the government should have a say in where it goes considering all of the other investments the government will have to make "behind the scenes."

Been to the metrodome many times for many different things. Grew up and live closer to the twin cities than des moines. I hate its location, awful to get into and out of. No good parking.

I have also been to many of the NFL stadiums for games or other events. So far the metrodome is at the bottom of them all.

I have been to a handfull of Vikings games and probably a couple of dozen Twins games at the Metrodome and never thought access to the stadium or parking is a problem. As far as downtown stadiums go (they should ALL be downtown), it was one of the easiest I had been to.

I agree. It was always all about finding the right lot. My Dad has been going to Twins games up there since the Dome opened and he found an awesome church parking lot right across the street for like 5 dollar parking. Always a spot it seemed, since access to the lot was a street over from the Dome not a lot of people realized how to get in there.
I've been a huge Vikings fan my whole life, and would hate to see them leave. Don't know what I would do if they did..whether staying with them or finding a new team

How many multi lane freeways and light rail converge on downtown that are designed to carry thousands of downtown workers to the suburbs every week day? I've always parked on the street 5 or 6 blocks from the dome and fed the meter for a buck an hour. Once game is over you walk to your car and get right on 35W south without having to fight your way out of a lot or ramp. Any suburban site is going to require millions of publicly funded road improvements and you will still spend an hour stuck in traffic waiting to get on a single freeway such as the Arden Hills site. A downtown site would require little to no additional transportation infrastructure work.

Yes, I have...and have had to park quite a ways a way every time...so what if the light rail runs right by it? Kind of hard to carry all your tailgating gear while riding the train...

And most of the good bars are on the other side of downtown towards the Target complex...

I'm all for a downtown stadium but the Metrodome site is the worst of the 3 downtown options...

Not a fan of Arden Hills either...like I said the Shakopee site sounds like the best option right now...all the sewer and utilities are already in place...
