Re: Vikings Exhibition in Ames?
The Vikings have more season ticket holders than Jack Trice holds. Will never happen. They'd play at TCF long before they'd even consider Jack Trice. I'm guessing JTS ranks right next to the FargoDome.

Jack Trice, with hillsides holds more than TCF Bank and about 3x what the FargoDome holds.
I'm not saying the Vikings would do this (mostly because of the distance from Minneapolis), but Jack Trice would be miles ahead of the FargoDome and from a capacity standpoint isn't any less desireable than TCF Bank.

Vikings season ticket holders don't get tickets to sit in hillsides.
And Jack Trice is undoubtedly a better facility than the FargoDome, however they still both have the same chances of hosting an NFL game. .0000000001%. They'd be better off in Kinnick or really screwing themselves and going into Camp Randall. TCF is still the best available option and it isn't even close.

I'd shoot for a regular season game. If we cut them a deal better than what they get from UM. JP could make a killing on parking and concessions.

They're certainly going to play their home games there, but if they want to play and exhibition game (which season ticket holders generally don't care for) in markets outside of Minneapolis, JTS makes as much sense as anywhere. It's closer to more people than Kinnick and its closer to Minneapolis.

IF, and that is a big if, they weren't going to play all of their exhibition games at TCF, I think JTS probably makes the most sense of anywhere. If you're going to try to turn lemons into lemonade and go on tour, you're going to go somewhere that might convert some fans. Attendance would never be the issue because it's the NFL and you'll be in a market that usually doesn't see it live. The Packers have Wisconsin on lock-down so they can't go to Madison. The Dakotas are Vikings country, but there is nowhere near the facilities over there for that game. I would think Iowa City would put you too far into Bears territory. Nebraska is probably too far away and too few people to really be worth it. Ames however is an easy drive and plants you right by a Des Moines/central Iowa market that isn't really owned by any one team right now. It's not a totally ludicrous idea.

I have several relatives that are or were at one time Vikings season ticket holders, so I feel pretty comfortable saying that a majority of the pre-season tickets that they are forced to buy just get given away anyway. They won't care if one exhibition game gets moved from TCF, because they weren't going anyway. In fact, if it means that the Vikings won't include the tickets for that game in their package for that season, they'll probably be pretty psyched about it.

Very few season ticket holders care about exhibition games. Playing in Jack Trice would help bring in some new fans and allow a lot of people to see their first NFL game. Plus it would be awesome to watch the Vikes in Ames.

Agreed, my wifes family has Vikings season tickets and they always complain about having the preseason games as part of the package. They always end up giving them away to someone and maybe go to one every other year.
I am just talking out of my *** here but say they played the Chiefs couldn't they both just consider it as a neutral site away game and not worry about season tickets. That way they could just sell single tickets for that game and both teams split the gate.

The idea of a Vikings/Chiefs tailgate at Jack Trice gets me excited.

I'm sure this is true but does it matter? Is the seating capacity at JTS problematic in general?
I disagree that Kinnick would be a better destination than JTS from a geographic perspective. I think there would be value for the NFL in playing an exhibition game adjacent to DSM.
Imo, doing this would be a good move for the NFL in general. Playing exhibition games at regional college stadiums would absolutely increase attendance at those games.
Most importantly; could this guarantee beer sales at JTS if it happened???

Re: Vikings Exhibition in Ames?
My dad is a Vikings fan and I would love to take him to Jack Trice to see them play. It would probably be the most interesting and most watched exhibition game of the year since people would be intrigued by the Vikings playing "on tour".
